Tomura…wow. While we know Tomura is no kind soul—he is a villain and leader of the League of Villains—we didn’t expect his past to be as dark as it was. Chapter 222 of Boku no Hero Academia doesn’t do much with our current situation but instead talks about how Tomura came to be the way he is. All for One found him after his family had been killed and took him in as his own. The biggest shock though came from the revelation that those hands on Tomura’s head are hands from his deceased family! As gross as that sounds, we realized that Tomura became the way he is because no one was there for him in a world where heroes seem to be everywhere for those who need them. After the revelation of his past, Tomura tells the doctor that his plan is to basically annihilate the world which in turn causes our evil doc to shout in jubilation and wish to help Tomura achieve his goal. The doctor still wants the villains to beat Gigantomachia, but Tomura seems to be ready with a plan in tow. Though that ending panel makes us wonder…what did they mean the villains were going to lose? Our review of chapter 222 of Boku no Hero Academia is all positive this week but let us explain why you must read it without hesitation!

Why You Should Read Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia) Chapter 222

1. Tomura Shigaraki…

As much as Tomura Shigaraki has done in the world of Boku no Hero Academia, he’s always been a bit of a mystery. We’ve known that he loves All for One and treats him like a master, but why they met and how hasn’t been thoroughly explained until chapter 222. Now that we know about Tomura’s dark and sad past, we understand his hatred and while we don’t excuse it—we doubt many do—it makes sense for him to be far from heroic and hell bent on being a villain.

2. New plan and strange final phrase

Gigantomachia has proven himself to be a tough opponent for the League of Villains but Tomura seems to have an idea on how to quell the beast. That alone has us itching to see what will happen in chapter 223 of Boku no Hero Academia. However, another element that also has us scratching our heads here at Honey’s Anime—and we know we’re not alone—is that strange final message near the end of the chapter. Why is the downfall of villains so ensured? We have some theories that there’s a new hero or power that will be used against them but only later chapters will reveal the theories to be true or false.

Final Thoughts

Chapter 222 was all focused on Tomura but in a way that really complete the past narrative on the big villain. With such a strong desire to rid the world of everything, we’re seeing Tomura as a scary threat more than ever before! Yet, that doesn’t instill fear in us but instead excites us for future battles between heroes and the league! What are your thoughts on chapter 222 of Boku no Hero Academia?
