Discussion Time

Twice has always reminded us a little of Deadpool from Marvel Comics. Being crazed, neurotic, and strange has made Twice an almost laughable villain, but this week in chapter 229 of Boku no Hero Academia, Twice gets serious. Our chapter mainly focuses on Twice trying to beat off the armada of clones but failing due to his mask being removed and his mind going into dark territory. We get some more background of Twice showing that during his darker days—after his parents were killed and he began to feel the pain of being alone—he kept making copies of himself who ended up killing one another and often doing it in front of him. This made Twice believe—as we know—that he wasn’t the original and he finally reveals why he rarely fights…the fear of vanishing like his clones meaning that he himself is actually not the original. During this monologue, Twice has his body beat up and he realizes the pain means that he isn’t a clone but is in fact the real Twice. With that revelation, Twice explodes seeing Toga being hurt and shows off his Quirk with a multitude of doubles all donning his mask despite himself not having one on. Twice is about to get serious and chapter 229 has made it clear he’s not joke villain! Until chapter 230 hits, let us discuss the beautiful elements of this awesome chapter of Boku no Hero Academia!

Why You Should Read Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia) Chapter 229

1. Twice as Nice

Twice has always fallen under the radar in comparison to the more interesting villains from Boku no Hero Academia. While he’s made his presence known—more times than we can count—Twice just doesn’t ever do anything that eventful. Chapter 229 of Boku no Hero Academia has definitely changed that though with him activating his Quirk and truly ready for a beat down! That final panel with him being surrounded by his own clones sent chills down our spines and made us root for the baddie!

2. Quirk Upgrades

There’s been a trend going on in the Boku no Hero Academia world and we’re starting to finally notice it. Quirks have always been shown to have adaptive powers but only with constant training and various random situations leading to the user becoming stronger. In the last several volumes we now think Quirks might be able to not only get stronger based on the user but they might be able to evolve! Twice activating his power at the end and the fact that his doubles had their masks on without him having it, shows Twice’s Quirk has altered allowing him more control. We can only imagine that more characters—both heroes and villains—will have their Quirks upgraded too as the series moves forward!

Final Thoughts

Boku no Hero Academia chapter 229 was focused on Twice’s survival and while that worried us initially, we now know our worries were ill placed. Simply put, chapter 229 was an amazing experience and we can’t wait for chapter 230 releasing in early June! What are your thoughts on Boku no Hero Academia so far?
