Discussion Time

Chapter 235 of Boku no Hero Academia is kind of twisted when you really dwell on it for a minute. Tomura continues facing down Re-Destro and after a bit of banter—and some truly great imagery—we’re once more sent into the past that is Tomura Shigaraki aka Tenko Shimura. As a boy, Tenko was similar to Deku, or at least seemed similar to him. While he had loved ones around him, at the age when Quirks usually manifest, Tenko seemed to be Quirkless. Kotaro—Tenko’s father—was quick to stop Tenko from believing in heroes and treated him with sheer violence. However, Kotaro seemed to do this not to be evil but to make it so his son wouldn’t dwell on him never being what he wanted to be…a hero.

Skipping ahead, Tenko with his sister—Hana—find a picture of his father with Nana Shimura, All Might’s original teacher. After this revelation Kotaro is enraged and brutally hurts his son causing Tenko to run away with their dog . It is here we think Tenko’s Quirk truly activates even though there were signs earlier that his Quirk was already beginning to manifest due to his skin being itchy and dry. Though, due to the large amount of hate activating in Tenko, his Quirk truly began and we know that it would lead to the current Tomura being the way he is. This week’s chapter of Boku no Hero Academia was kind of an ironic twist on Deku’s past and if you want to know what we mean, then continue reading our review to find out.

Why You Should Read Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia) Chapter 235

1. Tenko and Deku Alike?

Deku, as a child, was basically raised in the exact opposite way to Tenko (Tomura). While Tenko’s mom supported her son despite his weakness—like Deku—his father didn’t and it led to Tomura to be treated really horribly for wanting to be a hero. Deku wasn’t treated well by his friends who had Quirks, but unlike Tenko, he wasn’t beaten down with constant violence and made to feel unwanted. Deku grew up with a tough life due to his weakness, but Tenko’s harsh father caused him to become filled with hate and rage leading to the future we see now. Do you agree with our thoughts on Tenko being almost the polar opposite to Deku? Comment below as we’d love to know.

2. The True Beginning

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Tomura’s rough childhood, but it’s the first time we’ve seen it and we truly were blown away. Our now leader of the League of Villains had a rough upbringing and you can see why his hate began to grow. What’s worse is that unlike more heroic Quirks, Tomura’s has always been about decay and destruction making him almost destined to lead the villain life. Chapter 235 of Boku no Hero Academia gave us the beginning of our now infamous villain and it was one of the better flashbacks we’ve seen in this series.

Final Thoughts

Once more we entered the past of Tomura Shigaraki, but this time, we saw the true catalyst to where it all started. Next chapter should be even more past narrative or it could be the beginning of our epic—and very much wanted—battle of giants.
