Synopsis

(This is the second season of Bungo Stray Dogs.)

Atsushi Nakajima has nowhere to go. On the verge of starving, he has just been kicked out of the orphanage he was living in. He meets two very different and interesting men. The first is attempting to commit suicide by drowning himself. He is Osamu Dazai. The other appears to be neurotically flipping through a notebook while wearing glasses. He is Doppo Kunikida. They are part of a rumored “superpower detective agency” that deals with crimes and events that the normal police and army cannot handle. They are on the hunt for a human eating tiger that is disturbing the public and Atsushi just also requests to travel with them. Taking place in the city Yokohama, these men are those who have taken on the name of “bungo,” or literary master, and have embraced it. Each has their own different power that is revealed during combat. The curtains are now rising on these very strange “literary masters” who are about to have their own battle right now!

Three Episode Impression

In its second season, Bungo Stray Dogs has taken a sharp turn into darksville, and we love it. Whereas the first season focused on Atsushi and the Detective Agency, this season is all about the mysterious underbelly of Port Mafia. If last season left you itching to know more about Dazai's dark past, start watching now. In just three episodes, the well-paced action and characters have sucked us in and left us wanting more. How did Dazai get from one of the most feared members of Port Mafia to the goofy genius we saw last season? What happened between Dazai and Akutagawa? Just how much darker can this anime get? These are just some of the questions we expect to be answered in Bungo Stray Dogs 2nd Season - and we can't wait to hear the answers.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Atsushi Nakajima

Voice Actor: Yuuto Uemura

Atsushi has arrived in Yokohama after being kicked out of the orphanage that he was living in. The orphanage was ruined after the tiger attacked it, leaving it poverty-stricken. When he was on the brink of starving and becoming a thief, he meets Osamu Dazai. Atsushi then begins to help out with the detective agency. Throughout his life, he has had no friends nor parents, and he has been labeled as “no good” by everyone. So, he unfortunately lives on with no self confidence.

Osamu Dazai

Voice Actor: Mamoru Miyano

Osamu is a member of the “superpower detective agency.” Osamu loves to see the threshold of death and is enchanted by suicide. That being said, he dislikes bitterness and he is hoping to one day find a beautiful woman to commit lovers suicide with. Osamu seems to be floating about aimlessly without anything or anyone in particular to grasp on to. No one at the agency can seem to guess his previous work which is said to be one of the seven wonders of the superpower detective agency.

His power is called “Ningen Shikkaku.”

Doppo Kunikida

Voice Actor: Yoshimasa Hosoya

Doppo is also a member of the “superpower detective agency.” Doppo has written “ideal” on the back of his notebook that he carries with him. He believes that what he jots down in it are the signposts of his life. He is very uptight, meticulous, and straight-laced to the point that it drives him mad if his schedule is changed in any way, shape or form. His troubles never end though because his buddy is the free-spirited Osamu.

His power is called “Doppo Ginkaku.”

Ranpo Edogawa

Voice Actor: Hiroshi Kamiya

Ranpo is another member of the “superpower detective agency,” however, he is famous. At first glance, he has piercing insight which his colleagues recognize and respect. He is popular with the police due to being requested to assist in solving various difficult cases. He is very confident in himself and is brazen in his childlike-demeanor and speech. His motto is “If I’m fine, then it’s fine.”

His power is called “Chousuiri.”

Kenji Miyazawa

Voice Actor: Hiroyuki Kagura

Kenji is a member of the “superpower detective agency.” He was scouted by the agency’s recruiter to join. He lived without electricity in the countryside. He doesn’t distrust anything, and he believes that if he can speak, that whomever is listening will get along with him. Many people in his town refer to him as “Ken-chan” and he has many friends.

His power is called “Ame Ni mo Makezu.”

Akiko Yosano

Voice Actor: Yuu Shimamura

Akiko is a brave member, complete with a modern bob-style haircut, of the “special detective agency.” She is a superior doctor who has a lot of experience and is indispensable to the agency. However, every single employee is terrified of asking for help from her. Also, Akiko does not like it when people use old-fashioned words to classify her or talk about women.

Her power is called “Kimi Shini Tamou Koto Nakare.”

Yukichi Fukuzawa

Voice Actor: Rikiya Koyama

Yukichi is the head of the agency. He rarely shows up on the front line, but when push comes to shove, he will proudly take charge. Yukichi is dignified and a person of great character, so when it comes to dealing with Ranpo and his childlike nature, he is able to get him to get off his butt and be serious!

Ryunosuke Akutagawa

Voice Actor: Kenshou Ono

Ryunosuke is a member of a more vicious group based in the port area called the “Port Mafia.” Clad in a black cloak, he wanders around the port with a cold expression. He looks like a god of death when he does this. Ryunosuke is unable to be managed or controlled by law enforcement. At the “superpower detective agency” he is feared. When he is mentioned, everyone says, “Do not cross paths with him. If you happen to, run.”

His power is called “Rashoumon.”

Chuuya Nakahara

Voice Actor: Kishou Taniyama

Chuuya is in the upper echelons of the Port Mafia. He has a deep seated hatred for Osamu. He may appear small, but he actually is clever and adept with using powerful martial arts. He loves black hats.

His power is called “Yogoretsuchimatta Kanashimi Ni.”

Motojirou Kajii

Voice Actor: Wataru Hatano

Motojirou is a member of the Port Mafia. He is a wizard in the art of making bombs and is wanted in connection with the bombing of the Maruzen building. He is a boastful and maniacal scientist fascinated with death and extreme science.

His ability is called “Lemonade.”
