I know I'm exaggerating, but for some reason I feel Cop Craft has the potential to become the next Ghost in the Shell. Apparently though, there are no robots but fairies and monsters...

Well, the author is the same guy who created Full Metal Panic! and Amagi Brilliant Park, so that's a start.

I love police stories so much. The murdered partner trope never gets old!

Synopsis

Fifteen years ago, a hyperspace gate appeared over the Pacific Ocean. Fairies and monsters live in the world beyond it, Reto Semaani.

San Teresa City. This major city is home to more than two million immigrants from both worlds. It’s full of mixed races and multiple cultures. The haves and the have-nots. San Teresa is the newest ‘City of Dreams’ for this world. Under the shadow of this chaos, many crimes flourish including drugs, prostitution, and arms smuggling. The detective who fights against these heinous crimes, belongs to the San Teresa police department.

When Detective Kei Matoba, and Otherworldly being, Tirana the Knight, who are both completely different in both personalities, genders, and birthplaces, meet, an incident occurs.

With their two worlds and justices ahead of them, this buddy police action anime starts!

Three Episode Impression

If you’re someone who enjoys gimmicky buddy cop movies that were popular between the 80’s and 90’s, then Cop Craft follows in that tradition, but with a flavor of fairy tales. It’s similar to Gate where Japan serves as a gateway to a world of fantasy, but instead of Japan, that very gate is off the coast of Los Angeles (or San Teresa), and that is where the elves and fairies reside on Earth and live the American dream. Within three episodes, the series moves at a fast pace with the relationship between Kei and Tilarna developing during that period. Granted it comes across as forced, but events and circumstances within the story assist in making it believable. The baddie for the first three episodes is also appropriate for the series and though his presence is short, he does a great job of further expanding the world within Cop Craft. In addition, the first three episodes also do a great job of not only introducing you to the characters, relationships and motivations, but by the end of episode 2, you more or less get a good foundational understanding of what’s going on. Last, thanks to the performance of Kenjiro Tsuda as Kei, his deep and nasal voice effectively captures him as a hard-boiled detective suited for anime.
