- Crunchyroll announced today the cast and premier date for their upcoming Crunchyroll Original series, "Onyx Equinox" which follows a young Aztec boy as he journeys across ancient Mesoamerica to save humanity. Sofia Alexander serves as creator and showrunner and will be appearing across a number of panels this weekend at Virtual Crunchyroll Expo this weekend! (It's happening now!)
- The Crunchyroll Original series will premiere Saturday, November 21 and will be dubbed in Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, and German at launch.
- βOnyx Equinoxβ follows a young Aztec boy named Izel who is saved from death by the gods and is chosen to act as βhumanityβs champion,β forced to discard his apathy toward his fellow man and prove humanityβs potential on a journey that will take him across ancient Mesoamerica.
- To celebrate this announcement, Crunchyroll also premiered a brand new trailer to invite fans into the world of βOnyx Equinoxβ and introduce the main characters:
- Izel: Humanityβs reluctant hero. Tasked with closing the five gates of the underworld.
- Nelli: Izelβs sister and greatest source of motivation.
- Yaotl: The jaguar-like emissary of Tezcatlipoca who accompanies Izel.
- Zyanya: A warrior with a powerful ability, seeks to restore her destroyed city.
- Yun: Kβinβs more individualistic twin. The emotional core of Izelβs group.
- Kβin: Yunβs mischievous, risk-taking twin who often takes jokes too far.
- Xanastaku: A priestess in Izelβs party. Desires to redeem her dark past.
- Kβiβik: Izelβs weapon that grows by consuming blood.
- Meque: A type of axolotl with mysterious, magical power.
