Synopsis

Poor, second-year high school student Fuutarou Uesugi suddenly comes across a part-time job with good working terms as a private tutor. It turns out that this job is tutoring a classmate! Not only that, but five of them!! All five girls of the Nakano Family are beauties overflowing with individuality, but are all problem children on the verge of failing and hate studying. His first task is gaining the trust of all the girls...!? Every day is going to be a unique experience.

Three Episode Impression

Right off the bat, it’s really obvious that Gotoubun no Hanayome is a harem. Heck, the opening really spills the beans right at the start with the wedding collage that I still don’t understand. Anyway, the anime revolves around quintuplets who all have failing marks in school, but are wealthy, and a rather poor boy named Fuutarou who is given the opportunity to pay off his family’s debt by tutoring these girls. However, these five girls just absolutely don’t want to study at all, nor do they want Fuutarou in their home. Futarou makes me laugh since he spends the first part of ep 1 measuring out every little detail of his own lunch to maximize food to cost ratio, which is something that I can sometimes relate to (how sad). It just makes me laugh as he gawks at Itsuki’s lunch appalled by how much her lunch costs on a daily basis. Anyway, Fuutarou seems to spend each episode trying to get each girl to come out of her shell, which I can only assume will lead to said girl developing a crush on Fuutarou, who could care less about these girls and their feminine wiles. Initially, I assumed the anime would really center around Fuutarou and Itsuki, but episodes 2 and 3 don’t really center around her, so I wonder how this anime will continue to develop. Maybe it’ll be well rounded with just enough screen time to develop each romance, but maybe it’ll be obvious that 1 girl will win towards the end. Gosh, I hope it’s Miku. Although I guess Itsuki does spend time with Fuutarou’s family. Grrr. These girls are all harboring rather complex stories behind their playful facades. I wonder what will happen next. Also, did no one think it was wrong that Nino drugged Fuutarou in the first episode? What is wrong with these girls? Anyway, all the same, I’m really pulled into this harem anime unlike many others that I’ve seen in the past few years, including Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet, so let’s see what happens next!

Characters & Voice Actors List

Fuutarou Uesuki

Voice Actor: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka

Fuutrou is an honors student, however he is a poor, second-year high school student. In order to help his family pay back their debt, he accepts a private tutor job that comes with good working terms but... Fuutarou is the type to march to the beat of his own drum and doesn't care about the opinions of others.

Ichika Nakano

Voice Actor: Kana Hanazawa

Ichika is the oldest of the quintuplets. She’s the older sister-type who is good at looking after others, but she hates doing anything around the house and her room is filthy. She is currently keeping something secret from her sisters.

Nino Nakano

Voice Actor: Ayana Taketatsu

Nino is the second daughter of the quintuplets. Even though she is the one who cares the most about her five sisters, she is very aggressive verbally and physically towards Fuutarou. Nino is good at cooking and is in charge of meals for the Nakano household.

Miku Nakano

Voice Actor: Miku Itou

Miku is the middle child of the quintuplets. She doesn’t say much and is the calm type, but she can go down a rabbit hole when it comes to old war generals. Miku is great at disguising herself as her sisters and sometimes will pass off as one of them at their request.

Yotsuha Nakano

Voice Actor: Akane Sakura

Yotsuha is the fourth youngest of the quintuplets. Overflowing with energy, she gets along well with others and cannot refuse a friend in need. She is the best at sports for the five and often helps with sports clubs at school.

Itsuki Nakano

Voice Actor: Inori Minase

Itsuki is the youngest of the quintuplets. She is the serious one and the hard worker of the five, but often fails to produce results with her clumsy personality. She loves eating and is also the glutton of the family.
