The Lost Ones are people who come into this world from a distant world called “Japan.” No one knows their purposes and reasons for leaving their world, but one thing for sure is that they bring disaster and calamity. The duty of preventing these occurrences falls under a young executioner named Menou. Many lives fell into her hands until she meets Akari as she realizes it’s impossible to kill her. As Menou begins to search for a solution to end her life, Akari is more than happy to tag along. This is the journey that will change Menou forever…
Have you been reading isekai light novels or manga recently, and you get sick and tired of the saturated genre throughout 2020 and 2021? No? Okay. Either way, we’re just going to introduce you to this light novel series. Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road (The Executioner and Her Way of Life) is an anti-isekai series where executioners like Menou have a responsibility to kill every individual who comes from another world. Reasons: we will get into that later. It isn’t about killing her targets, but it also involves the political systems, the art of assassinations in certain situations, and yuri moments.
1. Smooth Progression of Main Stories and Backgrounds
The setup of this volume is written in such a manner where the main story and character background stories are arranged alternately. We initially thought that this approach would deteriorate the reading experience of this volume, but it surprisingly works. The reason behind it is that we get to know the childhood experiences Menou and her assistant, Momo, have gone through to train their body and mind to become proper Executioners. We find this builds a foundation within our minds to appreciate their thought process, snap decision makings, and the emotions they carry during their missions and battles. They may be priestesses, but they don’t hold back in any situations.
2. Conflicting Feelings
Menou has experienced a rather snowy disaster back in the village. As a sole survivor, her soul and mind were blanched. Meaning she can sense others’ feelings and emotions. If you’re happy, she’s happy—something like that. But the nature of her job puts her in a situation where she should prioritize killing her targets as efficiently as possible. That is, she has to gain their trust through lies and deceits and we see that is the norm of the process of assassination.
But Akari’s power of immortality creates a problem where Menou has to search for an answer to kill her, which leads them to stick together for a long journey. Being with her makes helps Menou manifests genuine feelings, and Momo disagrees where this is going. For sure, Akari and Momo seem to have a romantic interest in Menou, and you can expect some yuri moments where Menou plays hard to get.
Aside from Menou, there are Momo, Ashuna, and Akari. We’re gotta be honest with you. They are each crazy in their own way. Momo doesn’t give a damn about anyone except Menou, and she would go out of her way to end the entire society if she has to. Ashuna is a badass who doesn’t take sides between the Order of the Knights and Faust even though she is a princess. Akari… well, she is a happy-go-lucky who always goes to Menou despite her dangerous situation. And yes, they are insanely strong that they can destroy everyone if they want to.
Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road (The Executioner and Her Way of Life) is such a roller coaster of emotions where one begins to question what is right and wrong. Each character has a unique set of circumstances, problems, and past that pushes them to their utmost limit to maintain their façade to reach their objectives as the livelihood of the society depends on them. They may be crazy, but they are absolutely interesting and how overpowered they are in destroying their enemies. In addition to the anti-isekai and yuri genres, the story is about Menou taking a journey with Akari to discover her true nature while finding a way to end Akari’s life. If you have read this volume, who is your favorite character and why?
