Hmmm. Another anime where you learn? Reminds me of that Time Travel Shoujo anime where they learned about history.

Except you know... this is comedy and it takes place in a human body. The PVs already show that the series is going to be funny for sure.

Anyone else thinking this is a bit like Hoozuki no Reitetsu where you learn and laugh at the same time? Flashes of Japanese culture behind the guise of Japanese spiritual lore.

You hit the nail on the head. I am ready to laugh.

Synopsis

This is your story.

This is a story from inside your body.

On average, humans have approximately 37,000,000,000,000 (37 trillion) cells in their body according to recent theories.

In the world known as a human body, today too, these cells continue to work without rest. Red blood cells carry oxygen, white blood cells fight against bacteria… There, they have their own drama that we do not know about.

Three Episode Impression

Ever wondered what would happen if your high school biology class was Moe-fied? That’s what Hataraku Saibou (Cells at Work!) is. It’s a cute story that blends science about your body with anime characters and popular seiyuu. The series overall is just that. Something invades or attacks, the red blood cells panic, the white blood cells and killer T cells attack, and the platelets come to clean up any damage. The platelets are the stars of this anime with their irresistible cuteness that makes you want to give them a hug. There is slight humor, but this is no comedy anime and there are better comedy anime this season.

If we had to point out a downfall of Hataraku Saibou, it would be the whole ‘lack of a story’ setup that all slice of life & comedy anime tend to have unfortunately. If you can get past that, then a cute anime to teach you about the body is just what you need. We will keep watching this one for sure.
