Spring 2017 seems to really be having a strong lineup in almost all genres across the board. Hinako Note too is definitely for those in love with a good Slice of Life show.

Oh I forgot one! The book-eater humor reminds me of Anne-Happy!

The protagonist is a former scarecrow?! Hinako, a girl who’s bad with words, heads to Tokyo full of enthusiasm to enter a theatrical club in high school and learn how to talk to people more easily. However, for some reason her boarding house is a second-hand bookshop. As if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s also a beautiful girl there eating a book like it’s the tastiest thing in the world..?

This theatrical comedy follows these weird and wonderful characters as they work on a stage performance!

Three Episode Impression

It's hard to be quite as shy as poor Hinako, with the sweet girl turning into a human scarecrow whenever she gets anxious, which is normally when anyone talks to her. This also plays a hand in her unusual affinity for animals, as she definitely looks more at home with the birds and raccoons, than in a town full of people. And yet, a busy school in the middle of town is where she is, hoping to finally get over her fear of talking to other humans by joining a drama club! Perhaps a questionable plan for the village scarecrow. With Hinako herself, her new friends, and a surprising amount of wildlife, Hinako Note is sweeter than a sugar coated cinnamon bun. Each of the characters had a softness to them that makes each episode feel like a warm blanket, and the whole setting feels nothing like a big city, but rather, a quaint little town that anyone could feel at home in. Besides the candy floss sweetness, there's also an element of fan service in the show which can feel a little out of place at times, given the cute, slice-of-life premise, but has so far remained fairly light and fun. As a slice-of-life show there's not much to say for the story three episodes in, but Hinako's social anxiety problems provide a good idea of where the show is headed, and we're looking forward to seeing her conquer her fears by episode twelve. Overall Hinako Note is exactly what we expected from a simple cute girl show, so if you're looking for moe, fan service, and a relaxing time, it might be just your cup of tea.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Hinako Sakuragi

Voice Actor: M.A.O

The protagonist. She’s bad at dealing with other people but animals love her, so she used to work as a scarecrow in the countryside. She goes to Tokyo to enter a high-school theatrical club.

Kuina Natsukawa

Voice Actor: Miyu Tomita

Hinako’s classmate. She ends up eating her favourite books without realising what she’s doing. An absent-minded beauty.

Mayuki Hiiragi

Voice Actor: Yui Ogura

A girl in the year above Mayuki. She works at a cafe and is always wearing a maid outfit. She might be small, but she’s doing her best!

Chiaki Ogino

Voice Actor: Hisako Tojo

The landlord of Hitotose Manor, where Hinako lives. Mayuki’s classmate and a former member of the Fujimiya High School theatrical club. She’s usually quiet but completely changes when she gets on the stage!

Yua Nakajima

Voice Actor: Marika Kouno

Hinako’s classmate, a girl who is a huge fan of Chiaki and is aiming to become an actress. She sees Hinako, who is always around Chiaki, as a rival and is always picking fights with her. She might seem domineering at first glance, but she’s actually a very gentle and docile good girl.

Ruriko Kuroyanagi

Voice Actor: Yuri Yoshida

The advisor of the theatrical club. Once a popular child actor, she is more passionate about acting than anyone. It was because she left to “go on a journey” that the theatrical club had to stop its activities.
