Miho Karasawa, who also goes by the stage name TRUE, has just released her 10th anniversary album titled "TRUE the BEST" on February 26 (her debut date)! You may know her for her passionate vocal style and straightforward lyrics in theme songs for anime series like Buddy Complex, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, Maria the Virgin Witch, Sound! Euphonium, and many others.

Although she has been active as an artist since 2000, she debuted under the name TRUE in 2014, quickly becoming a powerhouse singer, flawlessly performing numerous opening and ending themes each anime season.

We had the lovely opportunity to interview TRUE once more, to talk about the future and reflect on these ten years full of hits and challenges.

Interview with TRUE

It’s been a year since our last conversation, and we're so happy to be chatting with you again! So, you recently released an anniversary album, packed with 30 songs and numerous hits. Was it challenging to select and arrange the tracks for this album? And if you had to choose, which song would you say is your favorite?

This release includes singles, lead tracks from albums, and key songs that represent my musical journey over the past ten years. With the exception of the first and last tracks, the songs are arranged in the order they were released. It starts with the first track, “TRUE,” and ends with “DelighT,” with the capital T at the end representing the T in TRUE. I wanted it to begin and end with TRUE, which is how the tracklist took shape. Every song holds a special meaning to me, so it’s hard to pick just one favorite.

The Limited First Edition includes a Blu-ray featuring two performances: TRUE Live Sound! vol.6 Encount, held at NHK Hall, and Sayonara Nakano Sunplaza Music Festival: TRUE Live Sound! vol.7 Ensemble, held at Nakano Sunplaza, both from 2023. Can you share any memorable anecdotes or special moments from these performances?

For me, live performances are life itself. I’m truly grateful to have these moments recorded. I hope that even those who couldn’t be there can still feel the passion of the shows through the Blu-ray.

And how about your most recent live event, TRUE 10th Anniversary Live Sound! Final Shuutaisei at Zepp DiverCity this January? How was that experience?

That show was the perfect way to wrap up my 10th anniversary. It was my first time performing in a large live house, and the audience’s energy was even greater than I had imagined. I felt that it was a meaningful milestone not just for me, but for the fans as well, marking the end of a decade. Throughout the anniversary year, I held various types of live shows, and I plan to use what I gained from those experiences moving forward.

Now it's time to celebrate your first decade as an artist, but given everything you've accomplished so far, we imagine you're already planning your next steps. Are you currently working on any new songs or projects to be released soon?

Yes, I’m trying various new things and plan to put even more effort into live performances both in Japan and overseas. Since last year, I’ve been doing joint live shows with other artists, and through these interactions, I’m working to expand my musical range.

Another goal for the future is to create a theme song for a tokusatsu anime. I will continue my music activities, dreaming of the day that wish comes true.

In May, you performed three new shows in Japan as part of your TRUE Live Tour PLAY! vol.1 -ReCoda-. How did you prepare for these events?

This time, I did my very first hall tour. I felt like I received so many gifts and warm congratulations for my 10th anniversary, and so many people came out to celebrate with me at my shows.

I’m going to use all that support as fuel to make each live performance a success from this 11th year onward, which will help me grow even more. It’s not exactly going back to my roots, but I’m planning to perform with the same band lineup as my very first live, carefully arranging each song to deliver it thoughtfully. In June, I’m also holding my first-ever Asia tour. It’s a new challenge to see how much I can convey beyond borders and language barriers. I’ll do my best!

We'll be looking forward to this!

And to close our interview, could you share a message for our readers, many of whom have followed our previous interviews and are passionate about your music?

Thank you always for your support. I’m truly grateful to receive encouragement from people in many countries through social media. Your words keep me motivated. From now on, as an anisong singer, I will continue doing my best to share Japanese anime culture and anisong culture with all of you. I look forward to the day we can meet someday.

We've been listening to this new album since release day, and it brings back so many memories!
