Interview with Asami Seto - Voice of Raphtalia

Honey’s Anime: Raphtalia is loved by many fans. What is your favorite moment voicing her?

Asami Seto: While playing Raphtalia, there are moments when I myself feel love for her. I especially feel it in the scenes where she shows kindness to her friends, or when she is jealous of Naofumi.

Raphtalia had a painful experience as a child, but since she met Naofumi and received support from him, she has grown into a strong woman on her own. I was really moved by that. I also like that she is reliable and pure, and I think it’s adorable that she shows a lot of jealousy and cute expressions. I believe these personalities of hers are loved by fans.

Honey’s Anime: What drew you to The Rising of the Shield Hero and what was different about it compared to other roles you’ve played?

Asami Seto: I think I see the appeal where I find the kindness in the heart of the main character, Naofumi. He was betrayed by the person he trusted and had to go through even more painful experiences, but at the core of his heart, he wanted to believe in others and was kind to those in need. I also think that it was because of his encounters with his friends, Raphtalia and Filo.

Honey’s Anime: What are your thoughts on the relationship between Naofumi and Raphtalia?

Asami Seto: I think there is strong trust between them. Raphtalia seems to be in love with Naofumi while respecting him. Whatever the case may be, I think they have a good relationship in which they need each other.

Interview with Kaito Ishikawa - Voice of Naofumi Iwatani

Honey’s Anime: Did you come across any challenges trying to find the right voice for Naofumi in The Rising of the Shield Hero?

Kaito Ishikawa: I haven't given it any particular thought, but I think the most important thing in voice acting is not the type of voice, but how you can show the emotion of the character.
So I try to think about what kind of emotion and intention the character is expressing at that moment.

Honey’s Anime: What was your favorite scene in the first season and why is that?

Kaito Ishikawa: The scene where he is saved by Raphtalia after the duel with the shield hero is impressive.
It was the first time he was truly saved since he came to this world.

Interview with Rina Hidaka - Voice of Filo

Honey’s Anime: What do you think makes Filo from the Rising of the Shield Hero resonate with the audience?

Rina Hidaka: When she's happy, sad, angry, sulking, etc... I think the charm of this character is that she has so many expressions. Even when there was no dialogue, Filo's facial expressions were constantly changing, and I felt a lot of love from the staff!

Honey’s Anime: You play a lot of little sister characters like Filo. What do you think makes the perfect little sister? Do you have something you are careful of or special techniques when you play a sister character?

Rina Hidaka: I think that small children are hard-working and pure-hearted. So I try to keep those qualities in mind when I play them. I also try to be aware of the differences in their bodies since their lung capacity is smaller than that of adults.
