Darkness is literally the embodiment of a girl who can hold her own in a battle but still look cute doing it. KonoSuba provides several episodes where she goes forth to provide “cover” for her comrades in the form of Aqua, Megumin and Kazuma. A perfect example can be seen in episode 3 of season 1. Here Darkness is tasked with the rest of the group to fight against a slew of flying cabbage monsters and while Darkness can barely hit anything with her weapon (she tries so hard that is another cute aspect) she takes the blows from the creatures because she loves it.

Yes in case you haven’t already read it, Darkness is a cute and tough masochist through and through. However, this leads to some great scenes of her blushing as she thinks about the damage she can take and welcomes it. Darkness can be weird because of her fetish but it makes her character charming. Now if only she would protect us from flying cabbage monsters…

Darkness is by, her very nature, a royal girl. In episode one of season two, Darkness reveals her big hidden secret. She is actually Dustiness Ford Lalatina, a woman of royal blood. Darkness does this in order to save Kazuma from a certain judge finding him guilty of colluding with the Devil King. This tactic works and allows Kazuma to go free. However it does pose a question, is Darkness or Dustiness Ford Lalatina (a name she hates being called) a royal princess under her large thick armor, or is she really just the way she has been since the first episode she’s introduced in?

Despite her royalty Darkness never acts like a princess throughout KonoSuba. She could have dined with the rich and famous or had been assigned a better team than Kazuma’s party, but she instead decided to forgo all of that in order to lead a simple life. The beauty of this is that she never acts snobbish or stuck up, and instead acts like an almost regular woman who just wishes to be seen as a warrior. One can look at episode four of season two of KonoSuba where Darkness is forced to marry another royal prince by her father’s order. The prince has money, prestige and handsome looks, but Darkness hates all of that and wishes to remain her almost pauper like state next to Kazuma and the rest of the Konosuba gang. So while Darkness can have it all, she’d rather earn her keep and blush as she’s getting attacked by skeletons and weird creatures.

Darkness is what every video game enthusiast who plays MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) needs, a tank. Her class “crusader” shows her ability to take a multitude of hits with her giant suit of armor and stand perfectly tall. Yes let’s remember she can’t hit even the largest of enemies with her sword, but in terms of a literal human wall Darkness fits the bill to the letter. Even Kazuma loves to make several jokes during the series about how durable Darkness is.

During both season finale episodes, Darkness proves her tank class worth by taking volley after volley of attacks. Darkness is literally never a fallen warrior and usually when the rest of the party is exhausted, she stands ready for more action. Regardless if this is her masochism side showing or not, it just proves that despite the reluctance Kazuma has on having another weirdo join his party she is a necessary ally. There are plenty of times we at Honey’s Anime probably could have used her in various gaming raids to be honest.

Even if you’re not all about the outward beauty, a person has to admit Darkness has some attractive values. Long blond hair, a tough but feminine build and a cute smile, Darkness can truly melt any foe just by smiling at them long enough. Kazuma himself has actually fallen for her in several episodes using his perverted mind. Proof of this is in two episodes, the first we like to mention is the first season’s OVA which has Kazuma admitting his lustful actions to the girls. It is during this scene where Kazuma tells Darkness all he sees in her is her boobs, he repeats this line for added measure several times.

In episode 9 of season 1, we see Kazuma fall under a succubus’s dream-like power to seduce men to gain more energy out of them via their sexual drives. It is then that while Kazuma believes he is asleep, he sees Darkness enter the bathroom while he’s bathing and makes her do several funny albeit overly perverse actions because he find her charm so strong. Thus we sum it up like this, Darkness is indeed attractive, she has a lot of pros going for her in terms of feminine wilds.

If anyone learns anything about Darkness’s character, it’s that despite her tank like body and strong nonmoving stance, she can’t hit any target. If accuracy was listed as a numerical stat for Darkness her number would be at a literal zero. This at times annoys Kazuma when they need her for a battle, she will most likely miss everything in front of her despite the size causing him and the rest of the party to have to make up for her low accuracy. However, Darkness has shown that even she has a few moments of luck.

In episode five of season 2 Darkness goes up against one of the Devil King’s right hand men named Vanir. Vanir is a tough opponent able to seemingly dodge any attack/trap with utter ease and even seems to be invincible to the party. Despite that, however, as Darkness goes toe to toe with Vanir she actually get an attack in on him defeating him. Yes, one can argue that in the end it proved to be useless as she then gets controlled by his mask’s power, but she did get a hit on him despite it. Darkness may have the ability to actually win a fight, as long as her luck stat just so happens to help her out that day.
