How Not to Summon a Demon Lord released back in 2018 and many of us otaku wanted a sequel! This isekai ecchi story was comedic, action-packed, and, of course, filled with oppai shots left and right. Our wish was granted in early April 2021 with How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω and, already, it's shaping up to be more of the same. Is that a good thing per se, though? Let’s find out in our first impression of How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω!
Diablo the Demon Lord is Back, Baby!
Everyone’s favorite Cross Reverie player has returned in Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu Ω (How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω) and that is a welcome sight. Once again, our summoned Demon King is back solving most issues with his extremely overpowered spells and abilities and dealing with a bevy of gorgeous fantasy ladies! The newest girl to join this isekai harem is in the form of priestess Lumachina Weselia and we have already begun to fall in love with her character. Diablo has proven that he is a powerful force in the previous season but can he overcome some new threats popping up in How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω?
Oppai, Girls, and More Ecchi Glory
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω is clearly not trying to reduce the amount of ecchi glory from season 1 and we aren’t complaining. Three episodes in there have been a nice amount of oppai love as we have our newest buxom priestess half-naked several times and—of course—the original two ladies of season 1 Rem and Shera are making their presence well known too. Ecchi fans will be pleased that How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω has not reduced the oppai screen-filling scenes and has begun introducing new girls to increase the already quite impressive harem in How Not to Summon a Demon Lord.
Stronger Animation
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω has released several years after the first season and two new studios have taken over the animation duties of this excellent harem/ecchi series. Now under studio Tezuka Productions and Okuruto Noboru—animators for works like Dororo, Kids on Slope, and The Quintessential Quintuplets— How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω has gotten a stronger animation style with similar character designs but improved visual effects and overall animation. Now we can enjoy Diablo’s harem of oppai-swinging girls in stronger detail…seems like a win for all of us ecchi aficionados!
Possibly too Many Similarities from Season 1
Our biggest fear for How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω is that it feels like a copy and paste story from season 1. Many issues Diablo has faced—such as powerful summoned demons and perverted enemies—have re-emerged and that could prove boring for many otaku. Yes, we still love the ecchi themes and girls but we hope some of these new villains prove to be a challenge for Diablo and his companions, otherwise, it will be just like the first season where Diablo rescues the girls from 90% of their dilemmas and unleashes spectacular magic to save the day/world. That could lead to a really formulaic season 2 and we don’t want that.
Final Thoughts
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω has given us three great episodes so far and is shaping up to be a fun overall season 2 for this silly ecchi anime series. We do have some concerns that How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω won’t escape from its predecessors’ shadow and will just reuse similar plot points/drama seen before but it’s still too early to really worry about it. As of right now, we’re just enjoying seeing more Shera, Rem, and newcomer Lumachina. Plus, one can never grow tired of oppai and perverted comedy…right?
