Major Similarities Between Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero) and Arifureta Shokugyou do Sekai Saikyou (Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest)
1. Only One Way to Return Home
In both Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari and Arifureta Shokugyou do Sekai Saikyou, our main protagonist is dragged into another world to fight as its hero. Instead of embracing the new isekai fantasy realm, both our heroes want nothing more than to return to their own world. Of course, the only way for Naofumi and Hajime to do so is to protect their respective fantasy realms.
2. The Main Character is Hated But Becomes Powerful
Despite all the hatred poured upon them, Naofumi and Hajime strive to achieve their goals and improve their skills. They attain amazing strength through their diligence and determination. Both Naofumi and Hajime become real threats to their enemies, despite having rather limiting skills at the beginning of their respective journeys.
3. Themes of Betrayal
Naofumi was betrayed by his only party member early on, as she lied about his intentions and caused him to be shunned by everyone. This is one of the main similarities with Hajime’s story as well, with Hajime being betrayed by one of his classmates and lost to the labyrinth. Not many isekai protagonists share this same theme, but themes of betrayal and distrust run deep in both Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari and Arifureta Shokugyou do Sekai Saikyou.

Bell Cranel’s quest to become a hero has only just begun! His new popularity has caused a different sort of danger, as other gods and goddesses have begun to take interest in him. The Hestia familia is conned into a war game against the Apollo familia, and though they gain new members to help fight, it will still be a difficult task to win it all. And when Bell later encounters an enslaved prostitute named Haruhime, he walks into new problems! Will he be able to be the hero he has always dreamed about, or will another god or goddess get in his way?
Major Similarities Between Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero) and Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II)
1. A World Where Strength and Magic are Coveted
Bell lives in a world where adventurers are idolized, especially when they are higher up in level and have more skills at their disposal. From the moment he is recognized as a more prominent hero, he is given a little more respect by people in the world. Naofumi lives in a similar fantasy realm, which is partially why his early strengths with a shield are looked down upon by others.
2. An Underdog Rises Up
Though both Bell and Naofumi end up gaining respect later on in their anime series, they initially have very little power in the world. Naofumi was gifted with a great set of skills but was looked down upon as the least of the Cardinal Heroes. Bell also has a unique ability but was likewise beginning his journey at the bottom of the adventurers, which was also due to his tiny familia. Both of our protagonists grow in strength over time, due to their determination and persistence in training.
3. Bonds Will Make the Main Characters Stronger
Though they start out with very little support in the beginning, both Naofumi and Bell gather a loyal group of comrades to help them along the way. Without their friends, our protagonists could not get anywhere!
