Being a farmer seems quite taxing. As anime fans, we like to stay cool and seated in our rooms rather than plow fields and raise livestock…just seems too difficult. Then we saw the very wordy anime, "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills", and now we kind of want to be farmers if it makes us this OP. Focusing on the farmer Al Wayne—very bizarre main character name—"I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" examines what happens when you max out farming stats…well, at least in this world. To be honest, "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" didn’t really ping on our radars here at Honey’s Anime but we decided to sit down and give it a three-episode test. Our test has concluded and we have much to share in our first impression of "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills".
I’m a Farmer!
What intrigued us about "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" was, and is, the fact that our “hero” isn’t a grand knight or resurrected powerhouse but a farmer who through hard work and dedication, has become super tough! Al is a very normal young man which makes it kind of funny he’s so tough but we won’t deny that is the hook of this series, normal people who somehow are super strong.
Tough Work = Super Strength
There is a cool concept in "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" that are from the various characters in Al’s life. Despite many being strong warriors or of royalty, the cast seems pretty simple and not over the top like most fantasy series strive for. This might seem boring but after hundreds of fantasy anime with over-the-top heroes, spell casters, and wannabe heroes, "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" tones down the fantasy-clichés for a simpler story.
Animation, Not at Max Level
"I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" at times can look decent but often the animation feels very plain. When you see some of the earlier fights, you might be confused as things look pretty good. Yet, when dragons start appearing and other fantastical creatures, "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" looks very average. We always value how much work it takes to make an anime series, and we aren’t saying "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" looks bad but, we feel there are a lot of things that could have been done to push it further as a fantasy anime.
A Fantasy Like The Rest
The biggest issue with "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" isn’t the average animation or ho-hum story, but the fact that this feels like every other fantasy series around. The main character is somehow OP because of a simple stat and now, is super overpowered and capable of striking down enemies like nothing. While it is cool to see Al use unconventional weapons to beat baddies—farm tools in this case—he still feels like a generic OP hero. "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" could have done more with its farming theme but ultimately, we feel this series tried to be too much like other fantasy anime at the end of the day.
Final Thoughts
"I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" isn’t an easy series to recommend. There are elements we think are good about it but equally, many parts of "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" miss their marks. Compared to many Fall 2022 anime that are airing, "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" might be skipped over completely and it’s understandable why. Nevertheless, if you want a simple fantasy anime with some interesting ideas, we recommend giving "I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills" a few episodes to see if you’ll like it.
