Studio Geno? Didn't they do the Genocidal Organ movie and they are going to be doing Golden Kamuy? They are releasing things pretty quick.

Yeah they are certainly making a splash into the anime world with their series and Kokkoku is included! This is no joke. It kinda reminds me of Ajin with those creepy creatures.

This is going to be some sort of race against death. I get heavy Paranoia Agent, Boku dake ga Inai Machi, and maybe even Death Note feels.

I think that the Paranoia Agent comparison is the closest. I am looking forward to seeing what Juri does. It's nice to have a main character who is not lazy and is the most motivated in their household.

Synopsis

The eternal time of 6:59 is beginning…

The ability to freeze time has been handed down from generation to generation within the Yukawa family.

Using this ability to “freeze time,” people are able to enter into a paused world where everything in creation has stopped; frozen in time. One day, the nephew and brother of the main character, Juri, are kidnapped. In order to save them, she inevitably needs to use the freeze time ability. When she does, she is assaulted by other humans who should not exist here also able to move within this paused world. These people belong to an organization called “Shinjun Jitsuai Kai” who revere the power to freeze time. Circulating a stone between them that is necessary to use “freeze time,” the mysteries of this paused world as well as the mysteries of the Yukawa family will steadily be clarified one by one.

Three Episode Impression

Kokkoku is, more or less, the official debut anime from Studio Geno. Now, they did do Genocidal Organ, but that was a movie. Juni is the only hardworking member of her family with her brother and father being absolute bumps on a log. Her sister has a son, Makoto, and Juri and her sister are working hard to make sure that he grows up to be a responsible member of the family. When her brother Takafumi and Makoto are kidnapped for ransom, her grandfather pulls out a stone, cuts his hand, and let’s his blood flow into a hole in it. Then, they enter into an eternal minute world known as Stasis where everything has stopped. They try to go and rescue the two, however when they reach them, Juri, her father, and her grandfather are not the only ones who can move in this world. Now, they have to escape with their lives as well as those of their beloved without being murdered. There are also Heralds running around killing people in the world. Her nightmare has come to be realized. For a debut anime, Kokkoku is hitting all of the right notes. The opening music is on point, the story is good, the characters are somewhat likeable, and there is a lot happening for a world that has ground to a screeching halt. Heck, even the 3DCG is done properly for the most part and never feels jarring. As the mystery unwinds around us, every episode ends on a cliffhanger and makes us want more and more. Studio Geno has a quality anime on their hand and we cannot wait to see what else happens in Kokkoku as well as the other anime it plans to make.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Juri Yukawa

Voice Actor: Chika Anzai

Juri is the main character of this story. She is the second daughter of the Yukawa family. Ever since she was a child, she frequently would get worked up, but no matter what circumstances she found herself under, she was able to move forward without hesitation. She is never half-baked in her ideas and always approaches everything with resolution.

Grandfather

Voice Actor: Kazuhiro Yamaji

Grandfather is the grandfather of Juri and the father of Takafumi. He is very stubborn and tends to not be very cooperative with everyday life, but in order to return to this previous everyday life, he does have a side to him that is able to coolly and calmly make decisions.

Takafumi Yukawa

Voice Actor: Kouji Tsujitani

Takafumi is the father of Juri, Tsubasa, and Sanae. He is the thin, yet supporting, pillar of the Yukawa household. As the head of the family, he does have some strange obsessions, but as a father, he is aware that he is rather undignified. This middle-aged NEET relies on his wife for many items related to the family finances.

Tsubasa Yukawa

Voice Actor: Hirofumi Nojima

Tsubasa is the older brother of Juri. He is basically a Hikikomori (shut in) at this point. He rarely steps outside. He has a side to him that is reliable when he is in a pinch.

Makoto Yukawa

Voice Actor: Ryuuto Iwata

Makoto is the nephew of Juri and Tsubasa, the grandson of Takafumi, and the great-grandson of Grandfather. He is full of curiosity and is frequently more mature than Tsubasa. There is a common understanding among the family that they at least want Makoto to grow up properly.

Shouko Majima

Voice Actor: Asami Seto

Shouko is Sagawa’s reliant. She is the same age as Juri, but she is discreet, cool, and grown-up. Shouko has an unshakeable will, but she does have some sadness as well as hidden thoughts within herself.

Juunji Sagawa

Voice Actor: Gouda Hozumi

Junji is the current leader of ‘Shinjun Jitsuai Kai’. He inherited his beliefs from the founder of the group. When it comes to his goals, he plays hard and is the definition of cool-headedness. His curiosity surrounding true research is what is his driving force.

Shiomi

Voice Actor: Yuuya Uchida

Shiomi is one of the men hired to assist in the kidnapping. Extremely intelligent, he is calm, cool, and collected when he takes action, and he always chooses the most rational option. He is like a right-hand-man to Sagawa.
