Despite losing her arm and her loving father at a young age, Natsume has a charming, can-do personality even in a world plagued by monsters. Not wanting to let her prosthetic arm hold her back, Natsume’s dream is to rise from a Tanker (one who is designated to supporting roles) to a Gear (a fighter that protects against the monstrous Gadoll that have taken over the surface of Earth. Instead, she’s relegated to armor repair under the curt Kasuragi. Kasuragi has no faith in Natsume’s dream at first but her diligent hope stirs something in him. Natsume doesn’t know it, but she has the power to move people around her which in turn will shake up the natural order of the world she doesn’t even understand.
Major Similarities Between Darling in the FranXX and Deca-Dence
1. Monsters vs Humans
Was the intro vague enough? Good! Becuase spoilers abound at this point. The first episode would lead you to believe the worst threat to mankind are these Gadoll that live on the surface of the Earth and attack the roaming last bastion of humanity, Deca-Dence. Much the same as the setting for Darling in the FranXX and their plantations. Tankers even have special weapons that allow them to fly around and pierce their targets, though not quite as cool or advanced as the mecha of the former anime. The Gadoll are also standing between them and people’s sole energy source, it being their blood. They’re unintelligent, big, vicious creatures though they also have a secret origin that will make you more sympathetic to their existence.
2. Hierarchical Social Structures
Just as the APE in Darling in the FranXX rules over all of humanity, Solid Quake is a megacorporation of non-humans that similarly views its fighters as profit for their giant company. Solid Quake views all humans as expendable tools but they go a step farther by manufacturing their suffering for the sake of their company’s entertainment. It does a good job of pretending they’re all on the same team but in actuality, it’s only protecting humanity to be used as tools later on.
3. Randomly Cute Robots
A small note but interesting all the same, it’s the robots in both shows that have the most animated faces. The FranXX in Darling and the cyborgs in Deca-Dence are so cute and cartoony that their ominous origins seem completely out of place. It’s like their destructive potential is masked by emojis!

Earth has been invaded by Kiseichuu, aliens who suck humans of their desires and leave them as hollow shells. As children, Retto and Kirara were attacked and the shock scarred Kirara for life. This spurred Retto to join a team of erotic superheroes that can use their eros against the would-be spirit-suckers. With the fate of humanity in their hands, it’s up to some horny highschoolers to save mankind!
Major Similarities Between Darling in the FranXX and Dokyuu Hentai HxEros (SUPER HXEROS)!
1. Team of Teens
Both anime center around a group of teenagers living together that alone have the responsibility to protect mankind’s way of life. The story takes place after humanity has already been under siege and adopted combat strategies through technology. The teenagers all live together, trying to balance domestic life and fighting for their lives together which can be rather complicated.
2. Erotic Power!
It’s hinted at for a lot of Darling in the FranXX that teenage horniness ultimately allows the kids to battle but that’s how Dokyuu Hentai HxEros starts off! They’re fighting using the same hormonally charged teen hormones to fight off a deathly threat only it’s a tad funnier. However, the characters have varied relationships and complicated emotions they must navigate as young people while balancing their role as superheroes. When the kids suffer mentally, so does their ability to fight which leads to dire consequences.
