What You Need to Know:
- We may be seeing the beginning of a new era, where anime creators turn to fans to directly invest in their series through crowdfunding. Last week, we posted about original 3DCG anime project Chika*Chika Idol's Kickstarter project. Now, a new series has joined the wave - upcoming spring 2016 anime Mayoiga.
- That's right, in anticipation of its April air date, Mayoiga's producers have started a Makuake crowdfunding project with the aim to raise ¥3,330,000 (around $509,000) which will be spent on promotional activities.
- There are several different courses, all of which make you one of the 'villagers' of Nanakimura, where the anime is set. Prices and rewards range from ¥3,000 ($27), which gets you a villager ID card and exclusive web content, to a whopping ¥400,000 ($3550), for which you get to spend a whole day with the staff and cast on a 'Mayoiga Bus Tour'.
- If this has peaked your interest, and you've got enough Japanese knowledge to navigate the web page, payment by credit card is accepted, so foreign transactions may be, too! Check out the page here.
