Netflix Took the Stage at AnimeJapan 2023 on March 25th to Reveal New Info About Four New Anime Series Coming This Year!
What You Need to Know:
- At the Netflix booth set up at AnimeJapan 2023, titles of all genres, present/past/future, were introduced under the theme of "Netflix Anime Cross Junction" through various activities and talk events by popular voice actors.
- In addition, at the "Netflix Anime Special Stage", new information on a wide variety of works such as "PLUTO", "Ooku", "Yakitori", and "Onmyoji" was announced.
PLUTO
Pluto is an adaptation of the 2003 manga of the same name, which is a spin-off of the legendary manga Astro Boy that expands on the "Greatest Robot on Earth" arc to create a murder mystery/thriller story. It was written by Naoki Urasawa in collaboration with the Tezuka estate. He chose to emphasize the darker aspects of Astro Boy, which came from the postwar anxieties of the time.
Yoko Hikasa will be playing Astro Boy, and Minori Suzuki will play his younger sister Uran.
"Osamu Tezuka presented us with this story 60 years ago. I think that's the huge sadness I felt from the original work. I would like everyone to accept the baton I received from Mr. Tezuka. If I didn't do it, I don't think the huge sadness I have would disappear."
Ooku
Ooku is the first anime adaptation of the manga written by Fumi Yoshinaga, which has been made into a live-action drama and a movie. The director is Noriyuki Abe, who has worked on popular anime such as The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Yu Yu Hakusho, and the Netflix movie The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh.
The story is set in Edo, where a mysterious epidemic has caused a rapid decline in the male population, and the foundation of social management and power has completely shifted to women.
Mamoru Miyano, Eriko Matsui, Yuki Kaji, Tomokazu Seki, and other A-list voice actors will be involved!
Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune
Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune is an animated adaptation of the military sci-fi novel by up-and-coming sci-fi writer Carlo Zen, who made a brilliant debut with "Saga of Tanya the Evil". The stage of the story is the future earth ruled by the giant interstellar nation "Shoren".
One day, the main character, Akira Ibozu, who lives there, is scouted by Pupkin, the "cook" of the Merchant Federation, and volunteers for the planetary orbital infantry unit "Yakitori".
Alecto of "Bright: Samurai Soul" is in charge of animation production, Miho Sakai is the scriptwriter under Hideki Abo, Atsushi Yamagata is the character designer, and Ken Ishii, in his first anime music role, is in charge of music.
In addition, the cast includes Taito Saka, Asami Seto, Shunsuke Takeuchi, Kengo Kawanishi, Akari Kito, Kenjiro Tsuda, Wataru Takagi, and Toru Inada. Plus, there will be an AI that supports Akira and others, "Hatsune Mimi", which was created in collaboration with the virtual singer "Hatsune Miku"!
Onmyoji
Onmyoji will be the first animation of the 1986 Baku Yumemakura novel that sparked the "Abe no Seimei boom" in Japan.
The story is set in the glorious Heian era. In order to solve the mystery of the oni that disturbs the city, a man who seems almost inhuman - the onmyoji Abe no Seimei - demonstrates his power.
His companion Hiromasa ends up helping Seimei solve the mystery through a chance meeting. While he is initially put off by Seimei, who is a bit otherworldly in his attitude, his passionate and straightforward heart sometimes surprises even Seimei.
