With that being said let’s hop right in!

GOD EATER 3 - TGS Trailer | PS4, PC

Story

God Eater 3 takes place in the Ashlands, a world that has been decimated by the Aragami. This has forced humanity to now live in underground shelters known as Ports, where many are treated as slaves, and in order to traverse around the world they use what’s known as Caravans to ensure their safety. Within this frantic new world, new Aragami appear such as Anubis and Ra, and it’s now up to the God Eaters to ensure humanity’s safety is maintained before it’s too late.

New Gameplay Mechanics

Those who have dabbled with the God Eater series will know that the game is all about hunting monsters known as Aragami, fierce creatures that torment humanity and will devour just about anything in its path. In God Eater 3, new mechanics have been implemented to give players more of an edge over the Aragami, and to add more thrill to the overall experience. There are the default types of actions (Slash, Shoot, Defend and Devour) and you’re able to swap between these actions, seamlessly giving you more control of the character and the action.

The new mechanics that have been added are called Engage System, Accelerator Trigger and Dive. Dive is a brand new type of movement that allows you to charge directly at the enemy for an offensive strike, or to escape from harm should you find yourself in a disadvantageous situation. This allows players to move around more freely around the world, a first for the God Eater franchise. Dive gives players more versatility in their approach allowing for more freedom.

The Engage System allows the player to work together with friends, sharing skills in order to take down the Aragami. It’s activated when teammates stay within close range while in missions. The Accelerator Trigger is a more passive skill that are activated when performing very specific moves such as perfect guarding.

New Aragami, Adaptive God Eaters + New God Arcs

God Eater 3 adds in new elements to gameplay to ensure that fans will receive the best monster hunting experience possible, and the new ‘Ash Aragami’ is sure to bring the challenge to a lot of players. Ash Aragami uses a special devour attack and can now be in ‘burst’ status just like you. That means Ash Aragami like Anubis can use your powers against you at any given moment, so the only way to limit its power is to attempt to devour the enemy to slow down the process. This is a series first as this now allows the enemy to devour you, adding in a brand new element of gameplay that will definitely bring more thrill.

The new God Arcs in the game are the Biting Edge God Arc and Ray Gun. The Biting Edge is a dual bladed weapon that focuses primarily on attacking the enemy directly with quick slashes and stabbing attacks. It’s certainly more melee driven when compared to the Ray Gun which is a long ranged attack that can be extremely lethal when you time its use correctly.

Adaptive God Eaters is another cool feature thrown into God Eater 3, and this pertains to characters who are similar in strength to the Aragami, making them much deadlier in combat compared to regular God Eaters. They’re also resistant to the toxins in the air around the Ashlands. One of the brand new Adaptive God Eaters is named Hugo, and both he and the main protagonist are very fond of each other, growing up together from childhood.

Our Experience + Final Thoughts

God Eater 3 is a totally brand new revamped title that both veterans and new players alike can have fun in. A lot of the new features really add a lot more depth and detail to the game which offers a brand new path of discovery in terms of combo potential and movement. The brand new story available is what will certainly attract the attention of the newer players, and with all of the action taking place throughout the game, God Eater 3 is a promising title that we expect everyone to love. During our playtime, we had the choice to face off against one of the 3 main Aragami in the series, and we went with the new Ash Aragami to see its new devour technique in action. You’re also able to use either a male or female character while playing, which is a plus too, since you can customize their loadouts for a playstyle that fits your approach, whether it be long ranged or up-close and personal. We didn’t get much time to really dive deep into all the details pertaining to the loadouts, but hopefully these screenshots will give you a good idea of what to expect.

As we explained briefly earlier, Ash Aragami now have the ability to devour the player and teammates at any given time, giving the Ash Aragami a chance to use Burst abilities against you. This was probably the most enduring experience because you always had to be on alert; at any moment, Anubis for example would just strike at you and attempt to eat you. Playing from a long range was our goal, only rushing in when it was stunned and we could land a ton of damage on it. Visually, you’ll know when Anubis or any other Ash Aragami transform because they’ll start glowing and behave in a different manner from before.

All of the new abilities allow for more flashier combos as well, which is something we loved. Being able to transition from one attack to the other felt fluid, and character animations looked very seamless. The camera movement at times was a little shaky if you found yourself stuck in a corner, since the camera wouldn’t know what to do in that position. We’re sure that will be fixed come final version but overall, the short demo proved to be a very enthralling experience and we’re amped to play the game this game when it drops in North America early 2019!
