Synopsis

Once upon a time, Shangri-la was a peaceful world where humans and yokai coexisted.

However, there are those who would use a forbidden combination of science and sorcery to revive Ox-King Gyumaoh, whose body was sealed in Houtou Castle in India 500 years ago by War Prince Nataku.

As a result, a Minus Wave has spread throughout Shangri-la, causing the yokai to lose their self-awareness and go berserk. They began attacking humans, and Shangri-la devolved into chaos.

Seeing the state of things, Kanzeon Bosatsu used The Three Aspects to order Genjo Sanzo to take Son Goku, Sha Gojyo, and Cho Hakkai on a journey to the west.

The four of them set out to prevent the revival of Gyumaoh.

During their journey, they encounter a mysterious foreigner named Hazel Grouse and his servant Gat, who have come from the west.

Genjo Sanzo and company end up travelling with Hazel Grouse, who uses a mysterious technique to revive humans using the souls of yokai.

However, Ukoku Sanzo, an individual with whom they have a certain history, is close by...

Genjo Sanzo: Toshihiko Seki

Genjo Sanzo is a 24-year-old monk of the 31st Chinese Dynasty. He is one of only five to hold the rank of High Priest in Shangri-la and possess the Heaven and Earth Opening Sutra “Demon Heaven.” Rather than stay within the realms of Buddhist teachings, however, Sanzo has no qualms with drinking, smoking, or gambling. Though charismatic with a keen eye, he comes off as arrogant and ill-tempered. When his favorite words are “die” and “I’ll kill you,” how could he not?

Son Goku: Souichiro Hoshi

19 years old, Son Goku was born atop a rock on Mount Huaguo, where earth’s energy is at its strongest. He is not human, nor demon, nor god, but an anomaly of an existence. After spending 500 years in a prison of stone for committing a great sin, he was rescued by Genjo. His full name is the “Great Sage Sun Wukong.” The golden coronet on his forehead restrains his full power. Bright and cheerful, he is always up for some food and can often be heard saying “I’m hungry.”

Sha Gojyo: Hiroaki Hirata

Gojyo is a 23-year-old human-demon hybrid and one heck of a skirt-chaser. Due to his heritage, however, he is not allowed within Shangri-la. Despite his appearance, he’s a good-natured person who unfortunately tends to get the short end of the stick. His childish bickering with Goku happens on a daily basis, during which he is often called “horny kappa” and “roach-kappa” along with a flurry of other names.

Cho Hakkai : Akira Ishida

This 23-year-old was born human, but slew 1,000 demons to attain revenge. That much blood on his hands has literally turned him into a demon. He prefers to avoid fighting for the most part nowadays and is generally laid back. However, he is downright terrifying when angry and the other three fear him as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Hazel Grouse: Kouichi Toochika

A foreigner from a continent far to the west who has sailed all the way to Shangri-la. Though soft-spoken in his distinctive accent, his unwavering confidence does result in him ruffling a few feathers on a regular basis. Skilled with necromancy, he is able to revive humans from the dead with the spirits of demons.

Gaty Nene Hawk: Rikiya Koyama

Brought back to life by Hazel, he now works alongside him as a follower. Taciturn, he follows Hazel’s orders to the letter. His massive, muscular frame is also surprisingly agile. The two pistols at his side are his weapons of choice.

Sanzo Ukoku: Yoshitada Otsuka

He is the only human residing in Bokuto Castle. Although he works as a scientist devoted to reviving the Demon Ox King, he is also one of the Sanzo High Priests. He possesses the Muten scroll. A man of few words, very little is known about him.
