Discussion Time

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 3 wasted no time in testing Nanashi as a samurai with the appearance of a ground of bandits! While Nanashi sighs about Hachimaru quickly making new friends, the bandits attack and problems arise for our new samurai. Due to a mistaken switch, Hachimaru ends up with Nanashi’s blade and as we learn earlier in the chapter—from a random appearance of another group—the blades in the dojo have ID units that only recognize one owner. Despite the fear within, Nanashi rises up and helps Hachimaru pull the blade and the two attack the bandits with some quick and powerful combo attacks! With a victory under their belt the two friends—possibly more—talk about leaving the planet together to venture into the stars. Meanwhile, Daruma talks to Hachimaru’s father wanting to know why Hachimaru seems to have a powerful gravity to him. We can only assume Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 4 will reveal some of Hachimaru’s past and with it, bring about the true beginning to our story! In the meantime, let’s discuss the pros—and cons—about Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 3 in greater detail!

Why You Should Read Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den (Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru) Chapter 3

1. The Birth of Another Samurai!

Despite the fear Nanashi had, it wasn’t enough to stop the samurai in training from jumping into action to save Hachimaru! The duo quickly used their skills to take down the bandits and while it was a fast fight—a really fast fight—it was enough to send some goosebumps down our spine! Can’t wait for more fights to come in Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den!

2. Truths to be Revealed?

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den ended chapter 3 with an interesting thought. Hachimaru seems to indeed be a powerful samurai with a strong heart but why exactly is that? Daruma seems to realize there’s something Hachimaru’s father is hiding and gives us a nice new mystery to chew on. Will this be like Naruto’s past that we learn Hachimaru actually has a powerful entity living within him or is there something more clever being cooked up by Kishimoto? We’re assuming the answers will be revealed soon and can’t wait to see them first hand!

Why You Should Skip Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den (Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru) Chapter 3

1. Love Brewing Already

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 3 shows an interesting moment due to some statements being made by our androgynous/ambiguous Nanashi. While we smiled a bit at Nanashi stating he/she wants to possibly cut a cake with Hachimaru in the future—a reference to a wedding cake in case that was lost on any readers out there—it might be a bit too fast to already have love brewing in Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den. Though, it’s still kind of sweet nonetheless seeing Nanashi make such a bold gesture.

2. Two Second Fight

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 2 made the ending seem like that bandit group looking for treasure was going to really pose a problem for our new samurai duo. Yet, in Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 3, the fight was over before we could blind our eyes! While we don’t dislike quick battles, we equally hope Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den has some lengthier ones in store for us readers. We don’t want to constantly have two-second fights in a series we know could make some amazing battles occur.

Final Thoughts

Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den chapter 3 was overall entertaining but still hasn’t won over us yet here at the hive. There’s a lot to love here, samurai, space fights and cool shounen tropes but equally nothing has been shown to make Samurai 8: Hachimaru Den stand out yet as a good series.
