Seiyuu Spotlight: Saori Hayami in 2016-2018

Today, we have decided to take a peek at a popular seiyuu that has been appearing in even more work now than ever, Saori Hayami. After cinching the Best Supporting Actress award in 2016 at the 10th Seiyuu Awards, Saori Hayami has not slowed down at all, but rather, has pushed forward even harder taking on more roles with her deep, husky (in a good way), hushed yet powerful voice. Recently, the seiyuu has been compared to the likes of Rie Kugimiya and Mamiko Noto in that as soon as you hear that voice, you know immediately it’s Saori Hayami. Let’s take a look at some of her roles throughout the years.

2016

Not resting on the laurels of what she had, Haymi lent her voice to a slew of characters in 2016 and that was the year where she really kept going but still gave a slew of characters who while all unique, definitely had that husky flair in their voices. Particular characters of note would be Reina from Musaigen Phantom World, Kotori Ida from Amaama to Inazuma, and of course, Shirayuki from Akagami no Shirayukihime. All characters have that brooding yet bright vibe that she brings to each role she performs in. She was also busy this year focusing on music by releasing her second single and then kicking off a tour following the release of her first album Live Love Laugh that came out in May. The busy seiyuu then closed out the year with a mini album called live for Live. Of course, we cannot close out this section without mentioning that she was also the voice of Shouko in Koe no Katachi!

2017

2017 was the year that if the anime community didn’t know Hayami already, they would soon. When a wild gambling anime called Kakegurui hit airwaves, it was an instant hit and Hayami truly showed how talented she can be when encouraged to take things to extremes as Jabami Yumeko. Of course, this was not everything as she was also Cardia from the steampunk reverse harem anime Code:Realize ~Sousei no Himegimi~, the Archer of Red in Fate:Apocrypha, Monkey in Juuni Taisen, Kojuurou Shuri in Masamune-kun no Revenge, and she was Yotsugi Ononoki in Owarimonogatari II. Of course, she was in many more roles as well. She appeared in a handful of movies along with the Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei where she reprised her role as Miyuki Shiba. Hayami also went on to release her third single Yume no hate Made at the end of 2017 bringing the year to a close.

2018

She might have been busy in 2017, but 2018 is also proving a busy year for this seiyuu. Hayami released her 4th single, Jewelry, in March and her 5th single, Atarashii Ashita, in September. She has been working voicing characters in games, dubbing movies, and appearing in others like in the netflix Godzilla anime movies. As for other roles in anime, the two that stand out thus far are Yuzuki in Sora yori mo Tooi Basho and Kokoro in the polarizing mecha anime, DARLING in the FRANXX. She was also most recently in Hataraku Saibou as the Regulatory T Cell who worked with the Helper T Cell. As if that wasn’t enough, Hayami is also lending her voice to characters in Double Decker!, Release the SPYCE, and Radiant, all airing this fall. So needless to say, Hayami is working hard and doing her best. Meanwhile we love her for it and are cheering her on.

Final Thoughts

Male or Female seiyuu, all seiyuu work hard. We just wanted to shed light on a popular voice and what she has been up to over the last few years since Hayami won her award in 2016. Needless to say, Saori Hayami is everywhere you can think of and it appears that she isn’t slowing down either. What is your favorite character by her? Be sure to let us know below! Till next time.
