Sakura Wars is back! I'm a fan of the games, to be honest.

Well, this show is the animated version of the new game, but you can still enjoy it as a standalone product, which is nice.

And it's also a sequel to the original story. 14 years later, Sumire is the leader of the team!

All that being said, I don't have much faith in this show...

Three Episode Impressions

Based on the popular Sakura Taisen (Sakura Wars) franchise and universe, this show is just another way to experience the story of Sakura and the new heroines in the Imperial Combat Revue's Flower Division. This time, the focus is not only on our new team but the latest addition, a Russian child named Clara. However, we still know nothing about her past or why she is so important to the plot, considering both the Russian and the Japanese are fighting over her... while also dealing with giant demons.

So far, the best thing about Shin Sakura Taisen is the impressive character design (and some of the backgrounds), but that's about it. The animation is terrible at times, all characters feel uninteresting and bland, and even after 3 episodes, we still don't know what this mess is about. It's unfortunate to see how dull this anime adaptation turned out to be, but maybe you like it? To each their own!
