It may not be the second season of DanMachi, but it's a side story and I'll take it! Especially as it's all about Best Girl Aiz!

We'll be seeing a lot of returning characters from Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, but what I want to know is who is the boy she meets? Will it be Bell or someone else?!

For those who haven't seen DanMachi, you'll probably be able to enjoy this as a stand-alone series. Especially if you're a fan of anime like Sword Art Online, KonoSuba, and Log Horizon.

But you should still watch the original because it is A+ material. Cute girls, fantasy battles, comedy moments, occasional side boob, you name it, it's got it. Go forth!

Synopsis

The side story to Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?)

Aiz Wallenstein, the Sword Princess.

Today, this famous swordswoman is once again returning with her comrades to the huge underground labyrinth, the Dungeon. The bones of a dragon crumbling to dust, irregulars creeping up unnoticed - 50 floors deep into the earth, they are attacked by various threats and mysteries. Aiz calls upon the wind, and a flash cuts through the darkness of the labyrinth… There, she meets a boy.

Three Episode Impression

You better have watched the original DanMachi before checking out this one, or you're gonna miss out on a heck of a lot of references. Sword Oratoria is the side story of Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka's Aiz Wallenstein, the Sword Princess, though it actually follows another member of her familia, Lefiya, more closely. So far, Lefiya has been portrayed in a similar way to Bell from the original DanMachi: she is technically strong, but has a weak personality and looks up to Aiz like she's some kind of idol.

Depending on your views, you might find it either nostalgic, or repetitive, though we think Lefiya and the Loki familiar have enough of their own personality to really set them apart from Bell and his story. While we catch glimpses of the original cast, as well as part of Story Oratoria's story being woven into the original's, Sword Oratoria also seems to have its own plot that was not mentioned in DanMachi, so we can look forward to a new story alongside mentions of Bell and his antics. As for the content besides story, look forward to a lot of cool fight scenes right from the get go as we start the series alongside an already powerful guild, using awesome weapons and spells and fighting fantastic beasts. There's also plenty of lighthearted comedy and fanservice to be found in between more meaningful story sections, which balance each other out quite well. Sword Oratoria is quite clearly made for previous fans of Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, though admittedly now with more girls, so if you enjoyed the previous main series or just want a light action series to watch this season we highly recommend giving it the three episode test.

The deputy head of the Loki Familia. The strongest sorcerer in the lost city of Orario, both in name and reality.

Check Out Cast Comments from the Seiyuu of Danmachi: Sword Oratoria!

Honey’s Anime had the pleasure of receiving the cast comments from the cast of Sword Oratoria: Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteru darou ka Gaiden as they were interviewed right before the new season went on air.

As we are sure that you are watching the series, the seiyuu for Aiz, Lefiya, Tinona, and Tione, (Saori Oonishi, Juri Kimura, Rie Murakawa, and Minami Takahashi respectfully) were kind enough to express their feelings about the show and the characters that they voice and represent. Let’s not wait anymore and get right into the interview!

Please tell us your impressions and thoughts related to Sword Oratoria: Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteru darou ka Gaiden.

Saori Oonishi (Aiz Wallenstein):

This tells the story of Aiz and company that was not shown in the previous installation of Danmachi, so I think this will make some viewers say “Oh, I see!”. Up until now, the feelings and throughts that we could not see of Aiz, will be shown in this story.

Juri Kimura (Lefiya Viridis):

It was the same with the original story as well, but earnestness of wanting to see the characters in the series grow is very touching. The growth of the characters can sometimes be them gently helping out, and other times can be them being strictly guided by the Loki Familia members. I really think it is lovely how they are just like a family.

Rie Murakawa (Tiona Hiryute):

In this Gaiden this is the story of Tiona, a member of the Loki Familia that I am in charge of, and for a side story, I was so happy that this was created. And, even though there may be scenes that were in the main story, you can now see them from Aiz’s group’s perspective. So, I believe that fans who enjoyed Danmachi will be able to enjoy this story as well.

Minami Takahashi (Tione Hiryute):

When you say Danmachi!! I mean, the action was great, the characters who appeared have, of course, fantastic individuality, but the real appeal, is that you can see the story of the Loki Familia untold in the main story! How does Aiz interact with members of the Familia, what facial expressions does she make, etc. are things that you can see many times because this is the Gaiden. More than anything else, I was so happy that I was able to see a lot of scenes involving Tione and the leader that I was so interested in.

Please tell us your impressions and thoughts on the character that you are playing.

Saori Oonishi (Aiz Wallenstein):

Aiz is generally a person of few words and she isn’t exactly overflowing with expression, but once the editing for Sword Oratoria began, it just can’t be helped how cute Aiz is!! I think you will be able to see a lot of expressions that you have not been able to see up till now.

Juri Kimura (Lefiya Viridis):

Lefiya is an extremely earnest girl. She did not have any self-confidence or courage, there were times when she needed help from her senpai within the group, and this piles up on her. So, I was able to inject feelings into her role rather smoothly. It’s like, “let’s do our best together” *laughs*. She’s still quite wet behind the ears in her party, but look forward to how much she will excite you as you can see how far she will grow!

Rie Murakawa (Tiona Hiryute):

Tiona is an unbounded, upbeat girl! It is so interesting that her twin, Tione, is the complete opposite! *laughs*. In the chaos of battle, she has a second name known as “Amazon” because she is so powerful. She is also incredibly sweet and sets the vibe within the Loki Familia.

Minami Takahashi (Tione Hiryute):

Tione is really straightforward individual, so I greatly enjoyed playing her! She normally has a cool and clam mind with which she is able to judge everything, but when it comes to the leader, she is truly head over heels in love with her!! *laughs* But I think it is lovely that she can think like that about just one person. More than anything else, her seriousness about her goal (the leader), is easy to understand and fantastic!

Finally, the show is beginning to be broadcasted. Please say a few words to the viewers who are waiting patiently.

Saori Oonishi (Aiz Wallenstein):

For the people who have seen the previous season, and for those who are seeing Danmachi for the first time, I think that this is going to be an enjoyable story!! The characters too; many individualistic characters are going to be in this story, so please pay attention to each and every one!!

Juri Kimura (Lefiya Viridis):

Finally, Sword Art Online is going to start! You are going to be able to see the many sides of Aiz, and the back and forth of the various individualistic characters of the Loki Familia is very interesting too. Also, Lefiya tries her hardest to be just like Aiz, so please watch over her as it will make me very happy! Thank you very much!

Rie Murakawa (Tiona Hiryute):

I think the people who watched the main story, of course, and the people who are starting to watch from Sword Oratoria, will both be able to enjoy the story. For those who saw the main story, I think that there are many parts where you were not able to see Tiona and company. This time the Gaiden is adapted into an anime, so we have made those fans who love the Loki Familia wait! Please enjoy this anime without fail!

Minami Takahashi (Tione Hiryute):

The tale that was not be told in Danmachi is starting! Whether you are a fan from the main story or this is your first time with Danmachi, I would be happy if you would follow this story feeling like you have become a member of the Loki Familia! Please enjoy this anime as well without fail!!

We would like to thank the main seiyuu for Sword Oratoria for sitting down and giving us their thoughts on the upcoming series as well as the characters. Please look forward to Sword Oratoria put out by Sentai Filmworks! Are you watching the series? Be sure to let us know below!
