The 5 Best Anime Husbandos of Spring 2021

As the Spring 2021 season starts to wind down, it’s important to take stock of what we’ve gained over these past few months of anime. We’ve seen outstanding animation, witnessed tragically beautiful stories, and... oh yeah, found a bunch of new husbandos to simp over! Here are five of our favorite guys from this season of anime!

5. Dearia from Dragon, Ie wo Kau. (Dragon Goes House-Hunting)

This thousand-year-old elf is technically the Demon Lord of all non-human races, but his true passion lies in real estate. Dearia is exactly the kind of realtor that Letty the trash-tier dragon needs on his house-hunting journey – he’ll stop at nothing to find a perfect home for any creature to suit their budget, personal needs, and adventurer protection requirements. He also helps Letty build character along the way, encouraging the dragon to raise a baby Hræsvelgr Eagle they found and allowing Letty to sort out his own problems when he gets caught in dangerous (but manageable) situations. We wish we had a hot elf guy to incinerate our enemies for us while we look for our new home!

4. Manjirou “Mikey” Sano from Tokyo Revengers

Don’t you dare mess with the “Invincible Mikey” if you value your life... or your teeth. He’s a bad boy to the extreme, using his natural charisma and genius martial arts skills to found the Tokyo Manji Gang in 2005 and lead the infamous criminal organization Bonten in 2017. All Mikey really wants to do with this power is protect his friends and create a “new age of delinquents” modeled after his heroic older brother, but there’s a deep darkness in his heart that will slowly consume him if someone doesn’t show him true compassion. Takemichi, you’d better give our boy some love so he doesn’t end up in another bad future...

3. James Bonde from Yuukoku no Moriarty 2nd Cours (Moriarty the Patriot 2nd Cours)

The gorgeous and unflappable James Bonde is the latest addition to William James Moriarty’s band of criminals, Although he initially appears in the series as classic Sherlock Holmes character and expert disguise artist Irene Adler, he sheds that identity to join Moriarty’s team and quickly proves himself to be an asset in just about any situation. He can anonymously stop a bank robbery with no casualties, bounce a bullet off of a coin at the precise trajectory to disable a cannon, and even drive an experimental car in the 1880s. We’d gladly join his legion of loyal fangirls if we got to see that devastatingly flirtatious wink of his!

2. Yoshinobu Maeda from Mars Red

Everyone in the secret Code Zero vampire unit gives their leader, Colonel Yoshinobu Maeda, their undying devotion through thick and thin. As well they should, since Maeda is a certified badass who lost both an arm and a loved one to vampires, but still faces them down every day with the mere power of a human. His character arc is fascinating, too – having watched his fiancée turn into a vampire and lose her mind, he allows himself to become a ruthless killer so that nobody else has to live through that pain. All we wish for this poor guy is a happy ending, but it may not be possible at this point...

1. Shinei “Shin” Nouzen from 86

Speaking of tragic military men who act as fathers to their troops while struggling with their own inability to protect the people they love the most, here’s Shin from the war drama anime 86! He’s the commander of the Spearhead Squadron, a group of marginalized soldiers trapped in a losing battle against the all-powerful Legion. He’s managed to survive years of this turmoil through tenacity and luck, burying countless comrades along the way and saving pieces of their mechs to remember them by. But maybe, through his (very cute) interactions with the idealistic Lena and his own adoring crew, he can break out of his hellish circumstances and live the life that he truly deserves.

Final Thoughts

We’ve also got hearts in our eyes for Takara Utashiro from Fairy Ranmaru, Fushi from To Your Eternity, Yoshida from Higehiro, and Ryou Amakusa from Koikimo. But are there any Spring 2021 anime husbandos that we forgot? Let us know in the comments, and thanks so much for reading!

After the hard-hitting East Coast lifestyle hit me a bit too hard, I started pursuing my passion as a writer in my cozy home state of Ohio. Aside from that, I spend my time cooking, cosplaying, collecting anime merch, and being an improv comedy actor. I also love sneaking alliterations and stupid puns into my writing, so be on the lookout for them! 😉
