Repeatedly, isekai anime fall into the same format and it can be quite noticeable. Younger man/woman dies, gets reincarnated into another world as a super gifted child and they are tasked with becoming a hero/heroine in this fantasy land. It can be extremely tiring to hear the word isekai in 2021 and yet, the genre continues to gain a bigger and bigger audience. Thankfully, studio SILVER LINK and Studio Palette came together to take the usual clichés within isekai anime and alter them in ways we’ve never before seen. Enter Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru (The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat), an anime that after three episodes, has hooked us here at Honey’s Anime. Is this new isekai the game changer the genre needs or will it leave us eventually disappointed? Let’s find out in our first impressions of The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat!
Welcome Lugh, the Coolest Isekai Lead Ever!
Teens are the usual leads in iskeai anime but in The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat—The World’s Finest Assassin to shorten this absurdly long title—our main hero starts as an older man. Initially unnamed, the older assassin about to retire to train others is the star of The World’s Finest Assassin and that alone gives this series a twist in terms of set up.
Having an older, already established male lead allows The World’s Finest Assassin to explore what entering a new life would be like if you had wisdom, skill and aptitude. Our unnamed male—who eventually is reincarnated as Lugh De Tuatha—when taken by the Goddess to be resurrected, is given the chance to choose the abilities to enter his next life with. Thanks to his wise mindset, the assassin doesn’t just go for OP abilities, but ones that could be combined to make an extremely enhanced young soul. This beginning of Lugh's already shows that our male lead isn’t like the typical goofy teenager reborn in a new world and we can only wait to see what else our assassin has in store for us!
Kill the Hero!?!?
The majority of isekai protagonists are asked to save their new worlds and become the heroes destiny planned for them to be. In the case of The World’s Finest Assassin, Lugh isn’t a hero but keeps his assassin heritage and is told to kill the hero of his new world.
Lugh is reborn via the Goddess who instructs him to dispel the “hero” after saving the world to prevent the same hero from becoming corrupt and leading to the end of his world. It’s really interesting to see a main isekai protagonist not become the hero but be told he must kill the hero! Lugh’s task won’t be easy but given how adaptable this main man is, we have no doubts he will find a way to accomplish his mission.
Maybe Too OP?
One issue we noticed already by episode 3 of The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat is that Lugh is showing signs of becoming a little too overpowered. Using his assortment of skills and talents, Lugh has already begun to master magic—thanks to his quirky teacher Dia—and shows he still has a heart of stone as he assassinates his first target—a young murderous girl—with relative ease. Lugh’s OP nature could be what undermines the strength of The World’s Finest Assassin and we pray that the series gives him some genuine trouble to deal with that he could possibly lose to.
Generic Endgame Possibly Incoming
Another possible issue with The World’s Finest Assassin that is possible—but not set in stone—is how this anime will progress. Episode 1 and 2 were pretty different for the usual isekai set up—the first showing Lugh’s original life and his death/rebirth—but the latest episode played the cliché of having Lugh learn his latent magic potential and it was kind of underwhelming. The World’s Finest Assassin needs to keep away from the typical failures of most isekai—meeting the whole cast and continuing to over-enhance the protagonists abilities—to avoid becoming yet another isekai.

The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat has some potential to change the concept of isekai series for the better and we hope it does just that. As of right now, this series is quite entertaining and we’re really addicted!
