Synopsis
In the Academy City located on the east side of Tokyo, the special psychic powers, the abilities which cause supernatural phenomenon by distorting the natural laws, has been developed. Among the students who gain those powers through special training, locates in the top 7 are the " Level 5". Misaka Mikoto is the Level 5 and 8th-grade student who goes to the prestigious girls' school. The annual big event arrives in front of her and her friends with unique psychic powers.
The event is called "Daihaseisai", the field day where the psychic students from several schools compete for victory. Unexpected events occur behind the exciting event, which is also broadcast worldwide.

Mikoto Misaka: Rina Satou
She is in the 3rd place among Level 5, the strongest 7 people with psychic powers. She is in 2nd year at "Tokiwadai Middle School", which is the prestigious girls' school in the Academy City, and is admired by her lower classmen (especially Kuroko) for being energetic and getting good grades both on study and sports. Her psychic powers handles electricity.
Kuroko Shirai: Satomi Arai
She is the Level 4 teleporter and 1st year in middle school. She is the lower classman and also the roommate of Mikoto. She admires Mikoto by calling "Sissy". She also works as the Judgement, the committee who protects students from danger in school.
Kazari Uiharu: Aki Toyosaki
She is 1st year in middle school who works as the operator for the Judgement. She uses "Thermal Hand" (the power which keeps the object at a certain temperature).
Ruiko Saten: Kanae Ito
She is 1st year at Sakugawa Middle School and the classmate of Kazari Uiharu. She is Level 0, who uses Aero Hand. She lives for flipping Uihar's skirt.
Misaki Shokuhou: Azumi Asakura
She is 2nd year in middle school, and also the Level 5, who uses Mental Out (the ability to control mind of others). She can do anything related to mentality, from mind-reading to memory control. She is also known as "a queen" and the leader of the biggest girls group in Tokiwadai.
