What You Need to Know:
- Tokyo Game Show 2018 has come and gone but the thrill and excitement of the event still permeates through our veins, and continues to shine brightly in our memories. One of the more memorable moments of our venture to the event was having a tour of the KLabGames booth, which has seen a massive improvment since last year. The booth expanded exponentially and looked even more attractive, with a plethora of its notable titles being shown off to the passing spectators in glorious fashion.
- We had the pleasure of being greeted by the awesome KLabGames team, who were gracious enough to provide us with a tour of the booth, along with giving us a chance to try out the popular titles that were on display!
Impressions [Friday September 21, Business Day]
Magatsu Wahrheit
Magatsu Wahrheit is the upcoming mobile title from KLabGames and is a full-scale multiplayer RPG that comes equipped with compelling storylines, fully immersive gameplay and the most defining aspect about it being its visual presentation. When we first viewed the game at last year's TGS we were totally blown away by the fact that Magatsu Wahrheit was developed entirely for the mobile platform, simply because its graphics were incredibly detailed. We thought it was a console game but of course that assumption was shut down immediately once we saw it in action. Fast forward to our current experience with the game and we must say that the VR experience we had on the show floor was impressive.
In the 5 minute demo we had a chance to play, a group of us went into a closed off room where our headsets were waiting for us. Once the demo began we were up against a huge monster and we had to work together to defeat it, using our powers along with strength buffs to lower its health quickly. The strength buffs we're referring to is when your character starts to glow yellow after successfully attacking the monster a few times and your team works together effectively. You unleash special attacks that take a big chunk of damage but once you've used it there's a long cool down period before you're able to initiate an attack again.
It reminded us of your typical RPG sort of like Final Fantasy XII, where you and your team continuously reap rewards for attacking the enemy, building up your MP to unleash a barrage of attacks that ultimately aid in closing out the battle. By pressing specific buttons on the controller (the mobile device will most likely have you press the screen), your character can initate different attacks, all of which have their own respective cooldown and so Magatsu Wahrheit really encourages you to think strategically and work alongside your team at all times. There wasn't anyway to communicate with the team during the VR demo but we imagine that when the full retail version is released, that players will have the ability to discuss tactics on how to defeat enemies. Overall, Magatsu Wahrheit is looking to be very promising and we're stoked to know (and play) more of it when more information is revealed.
Utano☆Princesama Shining Live: Meet the Idols
The Utano☆Princesama Shining Live had a long line up of eager ladies waiting to get their 1-on-1 time with their favorite idol, who stood behind a private room awaiting them. While Utano☆Princesama Shining Live is mostly catered to a female demographic it still has its perks that can really impress even the male fan, because of its fun-loving characters and entertaining gameplay. In the 1-on-1 private room session we had a chance to spend time with our favorite idol via a big touch screen, and depending on how you engage with him his responses will be different. So for example, stroking his face may evoke an emotion of shyness or maybe annoyance, depending on the character of course.
In the demo available all idols were at maximum level so that players were able to experience all of the emotions a lot faster, when compared to the normal version. It was quite exciting to be honest even from a male perspective because not many games on the mobile market really allow you to interact in an emotional way with the characters in game, but with Utano☆Princesama Shining Live everything is immersive and grants you the opportunity to really get involved and learn more about the character on a more personal level. Highly recommend this one to the ladies!
Love Live! School Idol Festival
Love Live! School Idol Festival is all rhythm and all fun! We had a chance to play the popular mobile game on a much bigger screen this time around, which reminded us of an arcade game. The purpose of the game is very simple in that, you must touch the screen as each note appears in order to gain points and successfully clear the round. As with any rhythm game your goal is to rack up enough points so that you earn streaks, and through these streaks your points double over time. Love Live! School Idol Festival is such a blast to play especially if you're a fan of the series because you feel a deeper connection with the characters and once you've won, it's really satisfying.
Even when playing on the normal difficulty Love Live! School Idol Festival proved to be challenging but that's the selling point of the game we feel, because as you clear more stages you unlock more songs to play and also parts of the story to interact with the girls. Overall, Love Live! School Idol Festival is such an exciting game that we recommend you to pick up if you're a fan of the series, and even if you aren't we think it's a great way to actually develop a relationship with the characters and over time fall in love with your favorite one!
Tokyo Game Show Business Day: KLabGames Booth Gameplay | Honey's Gaming
Honey's Final Thoughts
KLabGames really delivered big time this year with their massive lineup of titles and events that took place at their booth. We were able to bring home some extra swag thanks to the team and send a big thanks to everyone for them! Other honorable mentions at the event were the Captain Tsubasa: Dream Team VR Experience which put players in the position of a goalie, and you had to save 3 consecutive shots in order to collect your prize.
There were gatcha gatcha machines available also, most notably the YU☆YU☆HAKUSHO 100% Maji Battle Capsule Machine and Bleach: Brave Souls Photo Booth & Giant Capsule Machine. What was really cool about Bleach: Brave Souls section was that taking a picture of the wall with flash on revealed a secret message! KLabGames, you always continue to impress us here at Honey's Anime and we look forward to seeing your booth again next year!
