About TokyoTreat
TokyoTreat is a monthly subscription box which, like others, curates a collection of Japanese goodies every month and delivers it to your doorstep. Every month is themed too! so the snacks will have something in common—Halloween in October, “Santa’s treats” in December, and other fun themes like “Fruity Ninja”, “Winter Wonderland”, and “It’s Fall, Y’all!”
As is the custom, the boxes come in Premium and Classic. The Classic is just over $20 USD and it boasts 12 full-size items which include popular snacks, dagashi, share packs, DIY candy and more. For just about $10 more, the Premium TokyoTreat box comes with all of the above plus a party pack of candy (usually flavored Kit Kats!), an anime snack, and a soft drink! All boxes also come with a Japanese candy guide book.
Of course, whe jumped at the chance of previewing the February TokyoTreat box and we're sharing the experience with you!
On the Outside
When your TokyoTreat box arrives in the mail, you can immediately tell that you’re in for, well… a treat! When our box came in it was literally bursting at the seams with neatly packed snacks, most of which were carefully filled with air and arranged in a way to protect the delicate goodies inside.
The bright orange hard cardboard box is emblazoned with the TokyoTreat logo and promises tons of tasty experiences.
On the Inside
This is where the fun really begins! Our box was a preview of the February box which means… you guessed it! Chocolate theme! As soon as we opened the box, we were greeted by the guidebook included in every box. Titled with the month’s theme, “Sweet Valentine”, the guidebook shows a couple on a date eating yummy dinner with wine and a Japanese pudding dessert. More than just a list with detailed info about the snacks you received, the guidebook doubles as a sweet little magazine! There’s a little article about Chocolate in Japan, a mini Japanese lesson relating to the February theme—Love and Chocolate, anyone?—games, contests, and a section to showcase fans of TokyoTreat who have tagged their pics and shared the goodness! #tokyotreat

The Treats
As this was the premium box, when we pulled everything out of the amazingly well-organized package (these guys must be amazing at Tetris), we counted 17 delicious Japanese snacks including:
- 5 popular Japanese snacks: Cat-paw marshmallows, heart-shaped chips, Shin-chan chocolate stars, and more.
- 1 Japanese drink: Sparkling Sangria
- 1 Party pack: Mikan Kit Kat
- 1 Share pack: Veggie chips
- 1 Anime snack: Pokemon chocolate puffs
- 3 Dagashi: Umaibo, senbei, rice puffs
- 1 DIY Japanese candy kit: Chocolate kinako mochi
Right away, we were excited to see something unusual on this side of the world; chocolate-drizzled potato chips! And they were fantastic! To match the Valentine’s Day vibe, they couldn’t very well ship us wine, but they came very close with a sparkling sangria! And what do you think of when you think of shareable desserts? Why pudding, of course! And there was a package of tiny pudding-flavored chocolates! The combination of chocolate-drizzled potato chips, pudding chocolates, and sangria was an absolute delight, perfect for a date; and, wouldn’t you know it, the chips, pudding chocolates, and sangria are found exclusively in the Premium box! Definitely worth the extra cash. Especially since shipping is always free!
Honey’s Final Verdict
Though there are many Treats-from-Japan subscription boxes available, each company works hard to offer something different and unique. And TokyoTreat delivers!—pun definitely intended. Besides the usual dagashi and popular Japanese snacks found in virtually all Japanese snack boxes, TokyoTreat stands out from the crowd by including Japanese sodas, DIY candies, and the even rarer family size bags of candies which often are the flavored Kit Kats that are so well-known all over the world. Of course, we can’t forget about the included candy guide/magazine! Nothing beats getting all your snacks and learning something new at the same time!
TokyoTreat knows how to stand out, and with reasonable prices even on their premium boxes, there’s no reason not to give them a try! Have you ever gotten a TokyoTreat box?
