Akari Amano is saved one day from a curios situation by a young female vampire named Sophie. Akari is interested in Sophie from the moment that she set eyes on her. Akari finds herself an uninvited visitor in Sophie’s home and starts to live there as a semi-overbearing roommate. Sophie may be a vampire, but she has never attacked a human. Rather, she orders blood by mail order and the hobby of this modernistic, regular girl is buying anime goods. This comedy is about living together with a modern-day vampire.

Do you like anime like Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? or New Game? If you do, you might enjoy Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san which is really just a slice of life anime featuring an all girl cast, plus they threw in a vampire in there because, hey, it’s October. Still, it’s cute as we get to see Akari getting to know Sophie, the vampire, and it turns out that Akari is a bit of the weird one. While a lot of the jokes are about girl x girl and loli, the real humor is in Sophie who is just a ‘cute-ified’ hikikomori. Sophie even says she never has to go out or have Akari move in for convenience’s sake because she can order things via ‘Amason.’ Aside from her random night strolls, Sophie is content living and being by herself while buying many dakimakura that she keeps in her coffin, which is pretty funny considering how moe she is and how negative it is to be a hikikomori. Despite all of this, I do like Sophie a bit, but I always did like the more serious characters like Chino. Sophie also reminds me a bit of Anju from Karin!
