Brain’s Base’s 2014 reverse harem, Kamigami no Asobi, follows Yui Kusanagi into an alternate dimension where she much teach several gods how to interact with humans. One big problem is that most of them are obtuse, hardheaded, or extremely reluctant to participate at all. Making matters worse is that she only has a year to make all of them realize what it means to be human or each and everyone of them will be locked in this school-like realm for eternity.

Hades is the reserved one of the group that most people would want to grab by the arm and pull everywhere forcefully. However, he doesn’t keep himself away from because he’s shy. Well, maybe he is a little, but the main reason is that he his fully convinced that he can only bring misfortune and misery to those that come near him. This is because of the levels of hate and agony that he deals with running the underworld have given him a curse. Yui, thankfully, is able to pull him out of his shell, little by little, and we get to see him smile and blush a lot more.

Studio Diomedea took cues from Madoka Magica and decided to flip the magical girl genre on its head. However, they didn’t go into dark and terrifying territory. Instead they made a group of boys with a pink wombat deliver ridiculous levels of love. Now, Binan Koukou follows five high school guys, who just want to have fun, after a pink wombat lock Love Bracelets on to them and tells them to fight the forces of evil that are invading Earth. Diomedéa and Pony Canyon Inc, and is directed by Takamatsu Shinji. It premiered on January 6, 2015.

Our green-haired protagonist in this show happens to be Io Naruko, and he is debateably the most logical of the group. He is sort of like Kyouya from Ouran High School Host Club. With a deep knowledge about business and economics, he has a certain demeanor of professionalism that no one else on the show can quite match. This plays a big part as to why he’s always the one reminding the group that there’s a monster right in front of them, which just maybe they should defeat. Nonetheless, this doesn’t stop the others from pulling him into their schemes.

Kiznaiver threw us into a world of shared pain. Well, not quite exactly a world, but a test run of what would happen if people shared pain. The idea is that it sharing it will force people to stop hurting each other, and then the end result would be world peace. Well, that’s a nice ideal but for Katsubira, his best friend Chidori, and four other teenagers this experiment is a extremely hazardous.

Yuta is the ladies man of the series He takes care of his looks and prefers to be surrounded by other attractive people. This makes it hard to like him at times, but he is saved by two things in particular. Blunt honesty, despite being rather cruel at times, shows a deeper level to him and allows for more intimate relationships. Then there’s the realization that his style, good looks, and concern for appearance come from his embarrassment of being a chubby child. Chubby or not, he’s a joy to watch.

Pokemon. Does anything need to be said about Pokemon at this point? The only way you haven’t heard of Pokemon is if you’re living under a rock. Now, if you stopped playing or caring before learning about N in the video game or anime series (shame on you), then pick it back up for that season at least. Black and White is where creators brought in a surprisingly fresh and new narrative that revitalized the series in many ways.

What’s so special about N is that on some level we all agree with him. There is something questionable about capturing Pokemon in tiny balls and then having them battle against one another. This is the perspective N has, and he questions whether or not people (like us) really love Pokemon if they’re not willing to let them free. N not only talks big, but his actions prove just how much he cares about Pokemon and that he lives by his words. He is a character of honesty and integrity and really opened up Pokemon for bigger and deeper conversations.

Akame ga Kill follows the members of Night Raid, mission after mission, as they try to overthrow the corrupt rule that governs the empire. Created by Studio White Fox, this anime does not give its viewers a break from the action and heartbreak. From the beginning, they make sure you realize that no one is safe from the embrace of death. Warning: best not to get too attached to anyone in this show.

Lubbock is the resident pervert of the series. He’s constantly trying to get a sneak peak on Leone, which generally ends in failure, even though it’s later revealed that his true crush is Najenda. For a good chunk of the series, Lubbock is that guy off to the side, who catches your eye, but just seems to be there for humor and support. His skills with his weapon, Infinite Uses: Cross Tail, seem to be more for reconnaissance and security. However, towards the end, the show makes sure they show off just how crafty and powerful this Night Raid assassin truly is.

Hataraku Maou-sama! came in 2013 and blew us all away with its rather unique premise. They took the demon lord Satan, who had been on a conquest to conquer Ente Isla, and then throws him into our modern world with low reserves of power and no way to get home. Well, the demon lord, with his most trusted advisor, realizes pretty quickly what makes people tick in this world. Money is what they need, and so Satan starts off his life, in our world, working part-time at a local fast food chain.

It’s hard not to like Sadao Maou, the human name that Satan takes on. He’s hardworking, watchful, powerful, and hilarious. Whether taking on his more natural demon form or putting on his uniform for work, he always demands attention and respect. Admittedly, he has a lot of humorous moments in the show as he adapts to the challenges of being broke. Nonetheless, when he shows his strength after regaining bits of his power, he is one intense demon lord.

This is an anime about boys and basketball and two girls. Kuroko no Basket’s prologue is that there once was a team of basketball players who dominated the court more than any team in history. However, upon entering high school each member decidedly went to a different school. The ghost-like, almost unheard of fifth member of this team, Kuroko went to Sekkou, where he meets Kai, a player with vast potential. In Kuroko’s eyes, Kai presents an opportunity to properly challenge the ideologies and play styles of his former teammates.

Midorima is the Larry Bird of the series, meaning he is a player who plays behind the three-point line and has unerring accuracy. He’s calculating, precise, and constantly focused on the goal at hand. At the beginning of the series, he practically takes on the entire team of Sekkou High by himself, scoring threes from behind half court. Due to to his interactions with Kuroko though, he begins to trust and utilize his teammates more, even when he finally has enough control to shoot from his own team’s basket. Despite his play style being less aggressive than others, he is also has extremely good defensive skills as shown when going one-on-one with Kai.

Midoriya, who’s adult form you will see next, is such a fun character to watch develop. At first, there is a legitimate concern that he will consistently shrink to the background when someone gets in his face. Yes, he’s grown up without any sort of power and has internalized a lot of self doubt, but it’s honestly painful to watch him snivel. Thankfully, as the show moves forward, specifically to the point where he takes on ______, in practice battle, he shows massive growth. Yes, he’s scared, but that’s not the essence of his actions anymore. He is consistently proactive to problems and always lays everything on the line.

Cowboy Bebop is a classic from the 90s that everyone has probably heard of. It follows a motley crew of cowboys, or bounty hunters, as they scrape by in a desolate and expansive universe. Each episode we get drawn a little bit deeper into their relationships and backstories.

Despite being the oldest on this list, Spike is far from being the most mature. He can be lazy and be practically anti-everything (in particular women, dogs, and kids). He always has some smartass comment on the tip of his tongue and is not about to take orders from anyone. It really doesn’t matter if it’s the government, Faye, or Jet telling him not to do something; he will do it. Despite all of this, he is the type of man everyone wants to be. He carries his own weight and doesn’t gripe about it. He lives his life to the fullest and has the skills to back up his lifestyle.

So One Piece will continue going on until we’re all long gone. The show has followed Luffy from naïve boy to full on captain and powerhouse, and we’re still constantly wondering what will happen next. The simple amount of world that has been built into One Piece is astounding and has provided countless adventures for the Straw Hat Crew.

One of the original members of the crew and resident badass is Zoro. On a mission to become the greatest swordsman in the world, he’s gone through constant tribulations, and now has even been trained by Mihawk, officially the best swordsman. From the very beginning, when he reveals his triple sword skills, you know he’s going to be someone to keep an eye on. He is the second strongest of the Straw Hat Crew, and die-hard fans will gladly find points that show when some aspect of Zoro, whether strength or endurance or agility, outclass that of Luffy’s. Some will just refer to the fact that he hasn’t taken any type of Devil Fruit as proof that he’s more powerful.
