Saint Seiya follows a holy war with Earth at the stake as Athena and her Saints take on the destructive forces of evil. Athena’s Saints fight with the power of the Cosmos as they don mystical cloth to protect them and help channel their cosmic energies.

As protector of Earth in one of the most classic anime of all time, Athena is one epic goddess. She has protected the Earth against the terrifying forces of her Olympian relatives, such as Poseidon, Ares, and Hades. Despite being considered a goddess of battle, she has a disdain for weapons, and only in emergency cases will she allow her Saints to pick up blades. She’s resolute, beautiful, gracious, and kind as her decision to protect Earth not only has created bad blood between family, but also forces her to don mortality each time she reincarnates for a war.

Adapted from the wacky misadventures of the videogame series Hyperdimension Neptunia, David Production’s 2013 parody follows the four goddesses and their younger sisters of Gamindustri. In the past, the four goddesses; Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert; were in consistent conflict with one another until they signed a Friendship Treaty. Now they and their siblings simply get into ridiculous situations as they try to navigate this era of semi-peace.

Neptune is the ruling goddess of the district Planeptune. She, even more so than the rest of the ridiculous cast, is oblivious. This aspect of her personality is shown in a number of ways. Many of her lines are out-of-place questions that either give ammunition for the others or simply leaves them dumbfounded for a moment. She also never thinks about the possible consequences of her actions and is generally the first to throw herself into a fight. One great example of this is when she charges into the Dogoos fight despite being obviously outnumbered.

Wagaya no Oinari-sama follows the trials and tribulations of the descendants of the Mizuchi clan. It was tough enough being targeted by yokai, but with an out-of-touch guardian, a stern sentinel, and a few personal relationships to worry about; Noboru and Toru Takagami have a lot on their plate.

Kugen is an impressive and wily guardian fox diety for the Mizuchi family. However, due to her mischievous nature, she was sealed away by priests until the young Noboru Takagami releases her to protect his younger brother, Toru. She might be playful and ridiculous in many occasions, such as when she first sees a TV and wonders how a person got in there, but she is incredibly powerful. Her cunning, though, is by far her greatest weapon. It helps her beat stronger opponents as well as gives her an arsenal of humorous remarks. From the very start she’s cracking jokes, like when she relates her release to being “out of a job.”

Campione! follows the amazing journey of Kusanagi Godou as he takes on the position of God Slayer. In this role, he must strike down the fallen or heretical gods when they try to regain their power. Well, taking on gods is already a rough enough job that will probably lead to his death, but add to it a group of female followers led by the manipulative Erica Blandell, and Godou can never let his guard down.

Well, one of the most brutal and cold heretical gods, who Godou must face, is Athena. Though her past is unclear, it is suggested by Godou that she might have been the queen of the gods of her pantheon, and that she was the goddess of darkness, snakes, owls, earth, life, death, and wisdom. As Godou puts it: “Serpent of Mother Earth, bird of the god of death, and womanly wisdom. I understand now that this trinity is the oldest form of your divinity,” but “myth was rewritten, and the old queen, Athena, became the king's daughter.” That’s quite the forsaken tale, and definitely explains why Athena wants to shroud the world in darkness.

After freeing 14 girls from escaped spirits, Keima has proven himself worthy of title “God of Conquest.” However, it doesn’t take too long before a new challenge is brought to him by none other than…his next door neighbor. Well, in truth it’s the goddess Diana, a divine being that assisted with sealing the old gate of hell, who has taken over the body of Keima’s neighbor, Tenri. Now Keima is on the hunt in hopes that these divine beings might finally release him from his contract with Hell

Diana, as compared to her shy host, is bold and has an extremely sharp tongue. She’s not the type to be bossed around and, in fact, generally does the bossing around. You could say such confidence comes with the territory of being a goddess. However, her high intellect and perceptive nature contribute to her controlling personality. Despite her rough exterior, she is completely innocent when it comes to matters of the heart. She just flat out sucks at hooking Tenri up with Keima, but, hey, at least it’s fun to watch her fail.

AIC’s 2005 Aa! Megami-sama! is one of those shows that acts as a solid starting point for people curious to get into the anime scene. It follows the comedic challenges that college first year Keiichi Morisato faces as he deals with school, friends, and his own personal goddess, Belldandy. It’s a solid rom-com without too much fanservice and a laidback attitude that people with various preferences can enjoy.

Belldandy is the goddess that comes to Keiichi when he accidentally calls the ‘Goddess Help Line.’ She is beautiful, kind, and caring to every single person. In fact, her innocence and trusting nature generally put her in questionable situations.

Despite her incredibly loving demeanor, her power has her ranked as goddess first-class. In fact, she must wear an earring at all times to suppress her paramount strength. She can teleport, speak to animals and machines, see people’s emotions, heal wounds, and so much more. To top it off, she literally has the voice of an angel, and she brings people to tears when they hear her sing.

Spice and Wolf is a surprisingly witty and fun ride despite its focus on economics and business. A major reason as to why that’s the case is because of the epic back and forth between Holo and Kraft. Kraft might be an intelligent and focused businessman; but rare is the moment when Holo’s playfulness, instinct, and wit doesn’t have him off balance.

Holo is a wolf deity that had become celebrated in the town of Pasloe for bringing in good harvests. However, over the course of several generations the town became more self-sufficient and no longer required Holo’s assistance. Thus, when Kraft is passing through this time, Holo decides to offer her assistance to the travelling merchant. Immediately, the two are at odds as Holo’s all-natural look has Kraft immensely embarrassed. Despite their obvious differences, the two do make an incredible team and decide to assist each other in reaching their personal goals.

With all that you might think Kraft already has his hands full avoiding the haughty nature of Holo, especially if he offends her tail. Well, with Holo being a shape-shifting wolf god and all, they actually run into quite a lot of danger frequently. Thankfully, Holo is quite the beast when in her natural state.

Kono Subarashii blew up the anime world this winter. Following the RPG-like adventures of Kazuma Satou, a high school student, gamer and shut-in, who died from shock. Well, upon dying, the goddess Aqua offers him the opportunity to start life over in an entirely different world while bringing along one object of his choice. Spitefully, Kazuman requests that Aqua accompany, essentially stripping her of her position. Thus the craziness begins.

Though Aqua is extremely rude in her first encounter with Kazuma, this behavior turns out to be a total façade and falls away to some other qualities. She is most heavily characterized by an incompetency that few can compare to. Despite having incredible stats that have her ranked as an arch priest from the beginning, Aqua is far from being a useful support character. Whether it’s just that her intelligence is so low or she has been pampered her whole life, few things actually go according to plan.

Overall, her redemption might be found in her incredible shamelessness. It is indeed rare when Aqua is aware of how ridiculous and shameful her actions are. In fact, she generally wears all of her emotions on her sleeve with little to no self-control. This type of behavior, though absolutely deserving of a face palm, demonstrates an innocence and vulnerability to her character.

Enter Bell Cranel, a boy who wants to become the greatest adventurer, and Hesita, a lonely goddess who sees potential in Bell. While Hestia has been unable to recruit any followers to her familia, Bell has not yet been accepted into a familia either. Well, these two have a fateful encounter in the city of Orario, also known as the Dungeon; and with Bell joining Hestia’s familia, it seems that the two might be able to achieve their dreams.

Hestia among many things is an energetic, kind, cute, and hard working goddess. She does her best, picking up odd jobs and keeping their church/home clean, in order to provide for Bell, while he runs off to the Dungeon. Admittedly, she wasn’t always so diligent, as it wasn’t until her friends kicked her out that she started working. Nonetheless, she picked herself up and did everything in her power to change her circumstances.

Despite being one of the virgin goddesses, Hestia is anything but an innocent player when it comes to displaying her affections. She often sneaks into Bell’s bed at night, and she gets extremely jealous (pouty face galore with this one) when someone gets close to Bell or someone else is on his mind. Such antics range from being pretty darn cute to rather creepy; but considering how clueless Bell is, being so forward is probably the best strategy she’s got.

Noragami Aragoto follows the events immediately after the first season, but with a special focus on the Goddess of War, Bishamonten. As we finally get an insight into her daily routine, we start unraveling the riddle behind her deep hatred for Yato. However, the events it takes to uncover this mystery are massive and complex undertakings, and god and regalia alike are put to the test.

Bishamonten is one of the most revered and deadliest war gods, and has been given rank among the Seven Gods of Fortune. Thus, outside of hunting down Yato, she doesn’t have too many concerns. When it comes down to her battle prowess, she is an absolute beast. She is strong, graceful, decisive, and ferocious all at the same time. Assisting her in every way possible is her most trusted Regalia, Kazuma, who helps direct the power and accuracy of Bishamonten’s other regalia.

In spite of her rather rough and tumble nature, especially when she spots Yato, Bishamonten is one the most kind-hearted gods out there. No matter the cost to her own health, she always takes in lost spirits and provides them with a loving and caring home. She does her best to provide these abandoned souls with a family and to look after them with the utmost care. Sadly, it is this unconditional love on her part that leaves her in an extremely dangerous situation.
