Top 10 Powerful Dragon Ball Super Characters [Updated]

What's up fellow Dragon Ball enthusiasts. We're here today with an updated list of the top 10 most powerful characters in Dragon Ball Super, towards the end of this new list. Like all of you, we were disheartened to hear that the series has ended, for now. But, we're looking forward to the Dragon Ball movie being released later this year. Also, Toei is working on creating a new division that will be dedicated to working on a new Dragon Ball anime. So, we have that to look forward to as well.

This list is bit detailed, so it's slightly longer than usual. So, let's not waste any time and get right into it!

10. Kefla

The two strongest Saiyans, we've seen thus far, from Universe 6 have fused to create this mighty warrior. The combined power of Kale and Caulifla rivals the strength and ability of some of the strongest fighters of any universe. What's even more impressive is that it doesn't look like their potential has any limit. We all know that Universe 6 Saiyans have inherently higher potential than those from Universe 7. But, these ladies don't even need God ki to push fighters like Goku and Vegeta to their absolute limit. What monsters! Kefla would have been a contender for the 3rd strongest fighter in the Tournament of Power. However, after her final battle, other characters received power-ups that pushed them beyond even Kefla's power level. So, she had dropped down a few spots in terms of strength.

Kefla's Potara fusion, according to the angel Vados, is stronger than the sum of its parts (Caulifla and Kale) and their power increases tens of times over. Not all Potara fusions are equal. For example, Kabito Kai did not receive a huge boost in power after his fusion. However, Saiyans tend to increase their power much more dramatically with the Potaro fusion. Keep in mind that Kale and Caulifla are already very close friends and have built a close bond with one another during the Tournament of Power arc.

This is important because their compatibility with one another means their fusion is that much more effective. It could possibly be as dramatic of a power-up as Goku and Vegeta fusing together. That's not to say that their power is equal, but the Potaro fusion may be a similar multiplier to that of Vegito. That being the case, she could still most likely hold her own against some of the weaker Gods of Destruction.

9. Toppo

The leader of the Pride Troopers and candidate to become Universe 11's future God of Destruction. You guessed it, it's the warrior for justice, Toppo. The second strongest warrior from Universe 11 saw a bit of character development and under-development, in-development... regression. Yeah, that sounds better. Regression. Prior to the Tournament of Power, Toppo stood for righteous justice above everything else. But, we witnessed him throw away his personal beliefs and ideals so that he could become more powerful. Embracing absolute strength led to him reaching a higher form, God of Destruction Toppo.

Some of G.O.D. Toppo's feats include created a god ki energy ball that was powerful enough to overpower Frieza. Previously, Frieza was able to control Siedra's (G.O.D.) energy blast with some effort. Toppo also destroyed the ring that was created by the Grand Priest (supposedly to withstand any attack). He even temporarily warped the World of the Void.

Toppo is likely above some of the weaker Gods of Destruction. Sidra was shown to be worried about Goku's SSB Kaioken x20 and fighters around that level of power. G.O.D. Toppo is even stronger than that so this could indicate that he could defeat a true G.O.D. in an all-out fight.

8. Vegeta

Fans like to refer to this form as Super Saiyan Royal Blue or Limit Breaker Vegeta or Ascended SSB. The name official name hasn't been accepted well by the community. But everyone can agree that Vegeta's SSB Evolution is badass and just what he needed to differentiate himself from Goku while still reaching a level higher than standard Super Saiyan Blue. At first, we thought this would be equivalent to Goku's SSB Kaioken x20. But, characters commented that Vegeta had broken through his shell just as Goku had earlier against Jiren. So, arguably, this is Vegeta's equivalent to Goku's Ultra Instinct.

Vegeta reached this new level of power in his fight against G.O.D. Toppo. In this form, Vegeta refused to throw away his ideals for greater power. He was disgusted at Toppo's decision to let go of his beliefs just to receive more strength. So, Vegeta made it his mission to prove Toppo had made an unforgivable mistake. With the dramatic boost in power, speed, and ki he utterly dominated Toppo and proved that honor, ideals, and having someone to fight for are what truly make you strong.

We saw several instances of how Vegeta's new form differentiated him from his previous strength. Vegeta was able to survive his Final Explosion (suicide explosion) technique that had previously killed him in Dragon Ball Z. So, this also shows that Vegeta's body, not to mention his ki, has increased in strength exponentially and can now handle something that would have previously killed him. It was able to knock Toppo out of the ring, but Vegeta just exhausted his stamina temporarily. When Vegeta teamed up with Goku to fight Jiren, Vegeta unleashed regular ki blast, not even a Final Flash, that made a powered up Jiren struggle.

So, that goes to show how much stronger Evolution is than standard SSB Vegeta. Vegeta's Final Flash attack was strong enough to impress Jiren. Jiren had only been impressed once before in the tournament. That happened right after he defeated Goku in his Ultra Instinct Omen form. So, you could speculate that at that moment, SSB Evolution Vegeta had reached UI levels of power.

7. Vegito

Everybody's favorite Potaro hero had to show up on the list. Vegito appeared only briefly in the entirety of Dragon Ball Super. He showed up to wipe the floor with Zamasu and then defuse without finishing the fight. It's arguable that Vegito could have ended the fight quickly, but, as everyone knows, this cocky Saiyan fighter can't help but show off and toy with his opponent at every opportunity. We know he's one of the strongest fighters of any universe and that he deserved to be on this list. Placing him was difficult. But, we feel confident that he stands firmly at number 7. If Vegito could handle the strain of Kaioken x20 he would move up a few spots, but likely that strain on his body and ki would cause him to instantly defuse.

In the manga, SSB Vegito was pretty much having his way with Zamasu. Keep in mind that in the manga, Zamasu even struggled to fight Goku in SSB Kaioken x20. In the anime, Zamasu was able to handle his own, a bit, against Vegito after powering up and using an enlarged right arm. However, some community members who spend a lot of time researching power levels and multipliers would argue that SSB Vegito could be as strong as SSB Kaioken x400 Goku or even beyond that. Needless to say, we hope Vegito makes an appearance in the upcoming movie or in future Dragon Ball Super media. For now, his power level will continue to be a topic of debate.

6. Jiren

For the longest time were teased that there existed a mortal that even a God of Destruction could not defeat. Once we saw the tall, stoic Pride Trooper from Universe 10, we knew he had to be the guy. Jiren suffered a tragic past where he lost everyone close to him at a very young age. Then, he spent the rest of his life trying to accumulate power on his own and push away anyone that tried to get close to him. The only thing that mattered to him was absolute strength. Well, he achieved that. He easily stood above everyone else in the Tournament of Power. Jiren's base strength is enough to scare some of the gods of destruction. Beerus remarked that he couldn't believe such energy was coming out of one person. This is the same Beerus who had sensed the power of Merged Zamasu, a being who was taking over an entire reality and only felt mildly perturbed.

When SSB Kaioken x10 Goku fought Merged Zamasu, Trunks could still keep up with their movements while watching them exchange blows. However, only Android 17, the gods of destruction, and the angels could keep track of the attacks Jiren was landing against a stronger version of Goku with a higher Kaioken multiplier. Not even base form Vegeta could keep track of the number of times Goku was getting hit by Jiren.

As the T.O.P entered its last stretch, Jiren continued to unleash more and more power. Everyone was startled by just how much he had been suppressing his strength and ki. Only Goku's Mastered Ultra Instinct stood up to Jiren. Someone had to master an ability that even G.O.D. could not properly utilize in order to take down Jiren. This dude is the definition of a monster in terms of strength and technique.

5. Goku

Goku (a.k.a. Earth's mightiest warrior, a.k.a. the Saiyan with a pure heart, a.k.a. the man with limitless potential) received a ton of power-ups throughout the course of Dragon Ball Super. He started with integrating God ki into his body to reach Super Saiyan God. Then, he went through various upgrades and zenkai boosts to ultimately reach a level that had been unimaginable for a mortal. Even Gods of Destruction have not mastered Ultra Instinct.

In fact, they are scared of seeing Goku reach that form so quickly. There's no telling how powerful Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku can become. It very well may be a tier of strength above all of the G.O.D. We don't know for sure. However, we can speculate that it is not a form that Goku can access at will. He has to be forced into it by the direst of circumstances. So, it's possible that we don't see this form again for a very long time.

The only "concrete" information we have on MUI are the feats we saw him perform against Jiren and the comments made by people watching their battle. He was the only person able to stand toe to toe with Jiren and eventually surpass him. In episode 116, Dyspo says that Goku's skills had become more polished and Toppo said that Goku had become even stronger. So, Mastered UI Goku continued to grow as he fought Jiren and pushed him to even higher limits of strength. We know that Saiyans become stronger as they fight, but MUI could take that ability to an entirely new level.

Mastered UI Goku is very likely more powerful than the last version we saw of SSB Vegito (Future Trunks arc), hence why placed it higher on the list. If SSB Vegito reappeared in the Tournament of Power, then it's quite possible that Vegito would be stronger than Mastered UI. We say this because Vegeta and Goku improved greatly from the level they were at in the previous arc so their fusion would be even more powerful. But, it's very hard to tell without seeing it or hearing statements from other characters.

4. Beerus

There are a total of 12 Gods of Destruction with different tiers of power. The minimum requirement to be a god candidate is to be able to destroy planets and stars. You could say that Frieza and Kid Buu, or anyone with equivalent strength, could have even been considered god of destruction tier back in Dragon Ball Z. Though the anime does a good job of keeping the powers of the G.O.D. a mystery, the manga makes it clear that Beerus is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, G.O.D. We know that some gods are obviously weaker than others. It's the higher tier of gods that we're talking about here, and since we know Beerus is in that tier, we'll put him as the de facto representative.

You could argue that full-powered Jiren or MUI Goku could possibly defeat Beerus in a fight. However, there is so little information to back that claim up that it's likely headcanon at this point. Here's what we do know. Beerus was curious about Goku's unmastered Ultra Instinct form and how it would stack up against Jiren. Though, his comments and remarks made it clear that he was more disturbed by the amount of power Jiren was still holding back.

It wasn't until Goku mastered the UI form that Beerus acknowledged his strength. Also, Beerus contains traces of Ultra Instinct within himself. He's been training on mastering the art of fighting without thinking, just reacting and countering his opponent. Whis trained him just as he trained Goku and Vegeta. Beerus' base strength is much higher than Goku's. So, if Beerus ever managed to master Ultra Instinct he would undoubtedly overpower Goku and Jiren as well.

It was stated early on by the Oracle fish, in Battle of the Gods, that Goku and Vegeta would become Beerus' strongest rivals. If those two Saiyans had managed to reach the same level as the Universe 7 God of Destruction, it would be highlighted by Beerus, Whis, or even the Oracle fish. The fact that that hasn't happened yet points to the conclusion that they haven't quite reached his level yet. Again, this isn't decisive evidence, but it's the best the show and manga have given us so far.

3. Angels

The angels have been clearly stated to be stronger than their corresponding Gods of Destruction. In fact, they train the gods in combat. Their abilities transcend time and space, as showcased in Golden Frieza arc. There hasn't been a single mention of a mortal or god capable of fighting an angel on equal terms. For that reason, they still surpass any fighter we saw in the Tournament of Power. One other thing that's been hinted is that the angels are much closer to one another in strength than the gods are.

Toriyama originally gave a power scale to demonstrate the difference in strength of Whis, Beerus, and Goku. According to this scale, Beerus was a 10 while Goku was a 6. Then, Whis was considered a 15. Though this particular scale was retconned several times, there is something to keep in mind. The difference in power between Goku and Beerus was closer than the difference in power between Beerus and Whis. This goes to show that for all the powerups Goku has received during the entirety of Dragon Ball Super (arguably very close to Beerus' power level), he'd have to grow by an even larger margin to reach the level that Whis and the angels are at.

2. Grand Priest

The angels marked the point on our list where information starts to become very short in supply. We know so little about these multi-universal level beings that talking about their strength is incredibly difficult to do. The Grand Priest is even more enigmatic than the regular angels. All we know for sure is that he's the father of all of the angels. His power is supposedly much higher than all of theirs. Whis openly admitted that his power is nothing compared to that of the Grand Priest.

He takes care of he Omni-King and takes on the role of being his teacher. We don't know if he trains him, just like the angels train the gods, but even if he did, he probably doesn't have the ability to hakai (destroy) things out of existence at the same level as the Omni-King.

1. Zeno

The King of All (a.k.a the Omni-King) is the only being that presides over the entire multiverse. Actually, there are two beings that hold that position. Zeno and Zeno (his future self from an alternate timeline). These two beings are extremely childish and playful in their behavior. They have taken a liking to Goku and look to him for entertainment in times of boredom. Though Zeno appears to be immature he actually possesses the highest level of strength in all of multiversal reality.

He showcases a fraction of his strength when he erased Merged Zamasu from existence. Remember, Zamasu was a being who was able to become time and space itself. His existence was spreading across multiple realities and timelines. Not only did he erase this infinite being, he erased all 12 universes (within the timeline) simultaneously. That was the only time we saw him demonstrate his power. But, we can infer from remarks made by the angels, gods, and Kaio-shins that his power is unrivaled and undisputed. He is the pinnacle of power in the Dragon Ball mythos.

Original Article Below

Dragon Ball Super is the latest, greatly anticipated latest iteration in the beloved Dragon Ball franchise, and the first in eighteen years(!!!) to continue the story. The series has firmly cemented itself in the hearts of shonen fans for the past few decades, and Dragon Ball Super is no exception.

The format of the show is a bit unique, as the first two plot arcs, Battle of the Gods and Resurrection ‘F’, were actually released in cinemas, before moving into an original story that explores the idea of alternate universes. With so many beloved characters, it’s quite the task to choose, but here are our Top 10 Powerful Dragon Ball Super Characters!

10. Piccolo

Everyone’s favorite Namekian, Piccolo has a rather sordid past with a lot of the characters in the Dragon Ball universe. Originally an antagonist for Goku, intent on world domination, his plans changed when a more powerful threat arrived on the planet in the form of Raditz. The two rivals teamed up to take the powerful Saiyan down at the cost of Goku’s life, and his willingness to fight on the side of justice has been cemented ever since.

In Dragon Ball Super, Piccolo’s character remains relatively unchanged. Without any imminent threats intent on destroying the world, he has time to take it easy and spends most of his free time training. When confronted by the powerful God of Destruction, Beerus, he comes through in a pinch to help his friends, even if he doesn’t have the strength to go toe-to-toe with Beerus on his own. Watch out for his signature move, the Special Beam Cannon.

9. Majin Buu

A far cry from his shape-shifting, people-eating ways as depicted in the Buu Saga plot arc of Dragon Ball Z, these days Majin Buu lives a quiet life with the Earth-dwelling heroes of the series, having reverted back to his pudgier, more benevolent form.

But that doesn’t mean that he can’t pack, or take, a punch. He also steps in to help alleviate the threat Beerus poses to Earth, although he can’t hold a flame to the God of Destruction. Once things have settled down, he agrees to take part in a tournament with powerful warriors from an alternate dimension, in order to decide who has the rights to inhabit Earth, proving that he is still a force to be reckoned with.

8. Gotenks

Gotenks is a super-powered combination of two young Saiyans, Goten, the second son of Goku, and Trunks, the son of Vegeta and Bulma. In order to achieve greater strength and balance the scales in the fight against Majin Buu, Piccolo and Goku taught the young boys how to combine their power by utilizing the secret power of fusion.

Despite his age, Gotenks is no pushover. He can achieve multiple levels of Super Saiyan (complete with the requisite hairstyle makeover), and valiantly throws himself into battle to defend Earth and those he cares about. While he isn’t quite strong enough to take on the big bads, he holds his own against a newly-revived Frieza’s most powerful henchman and buys the warriors of Earth enough time to regroup and continue fighting.

7. Gohan

Like every firstborn child, Gohan started off as a gentle, if somewhat spoiled, young boy. This all changed when he became the pupil of Piccolo, in order to train his innate abilities as a Saiyan to combat the impending threat posed by Vegeta and Nappa. Since then, he has been a fearsome warrior on the front lines, going head to head with iconic foes like Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, and Buu.

In Dragon Ball Super, Gohan is a far cry from the young boy he used to be. As a grown man with a child on the way, he understands the heavy responsibility that comes with being a defender of Earth and has even more incentive to bring everything he has to every battle. While his adulthood has some unintended consequences, such as enraging Beerus, it hasn’t dulled his combat prowess. The jury is out on whether he’s strong enough to handle the trials of raising a daughter!

6. Hit

Hit is an assassin of an unknown race (though he resembles a purple palette crossover of Cell and Frieza) that inhabits Universe 6. He agrees to participate in a tournament against the heroes of Universe 7 for the rights to inhabit Earth and is so confident in his abilities that he believes he has already won a bet he made at the tournament’s outset.

Although an assassin, Hit has a strong sense of honor and is even willing to show his opponents compassion by taking it easy on them, and giving them the chance to bow out. He may seem cold and dispassionate, but he fights with the same moral fortitude as Goku and appreciates a good fight with the best of them. His signature ability is Time Skip, which allows him to momentarily freeze time and gain an advantage on his opponents.

5. Frieza

Frieza made a name for himself as a ruthless conqueror and destroyer of planets, having destroyed the Saiyan home world out of a prudent fear of their combat prowess, and the threat they represented to his power. His ambition took him to Namek, where he intended to wish for immortality so that he could conquer the entire universe, but his plans were thwarted through the combined efforts of the defenders of Earth, although the planet was destroyed in the process. Not one to go down without a fight, Frieza reappeared on Earth as a cyborg some time later to exact his revenge, only to be summarily executed by Trunks, sent from the future.

Third time's a charm, right? When Frieza’s remaining men gather the Dragon Balls and resurrect him, he decides to harness his innate power in order to ensure that his confrontation with Earth’s defenders goes his way. His assault on Earth pushes all of the heroes to their limits, especially the reveal of his impressive golden form, which is powerful enough to go blow for blow with Goku’s powerful Saiyan God form. Without spoiling anything, his confrontation with Goku and co. is a grudge match no fan wants to miss.

4. Vegeta

Vegeta is a classic antihero, and widely considered one of the series’ most complicated characters. His is the only Saiyan who acutely feels the weight of his heritage; he understands the innate combat prowess of his race and seeks to uphold their proud legacy as its surviving prince. While his initial arrival on Earth is under the employ of Frieza, with designs for destruction, his respect and envy for the strength of Goku lead him to form an uneasy alliance, eventually resulting in a real, if flawed, friendship.

While he has happily settled into family life by the time of Dragon Ball Super, his ambition means that he won’t rest on his laurels until his is the strongest Saiyan in the universe. This part in the series represents the only time that Vegeta might be as strong as Goku, if not stronger, as he is also able to achieve the Saiyan God form, while having inherently more ruthless tactics in combat. He joins Earth’s forces in the tournament with Universe 6 to fight for the future of his friends and family.

3. Goku

Easily the most iconic character in the series, fans have watched Goku mature from a wild young boy into a proud father and a warrior with an indomitable spirit. Whenever a threat faces the residents of Earth, or his friends and family, Goku answers the call (usually late, but better late than never) and acts as Earth’s champion. Time and time again he has proved himself to be the most powerful warrior in the series.

Until now. While Goku’s natural combat instincts and warrior spirit lead him down a path of constantly increasing strength, his encounter with the powerful God of Destruction, Beerus, proves that the furthest corners of the universe may hold threats that even the loveable Saiyan warrior might not be able to overcome. But of course, that won’t stop him from trying.

2. Beerus

Beerus might not look like much beyond a purple cat in traditional Egyptian garb, but his role as the God of Destruction means he travels the universe destroying planets to bring about balance. He has another passion outside of destruction; finding the most delicious foods the universe has to offer. This, combined with his desire to fulfill a prophecy and fight the legendary “Super Saiyan God” lead him to Earth.

While he enjoys the libations offered at Bulma’s part, it isn’t long before the drunken antics of Gohan remind him of his true nature, and set him against the forces of Earth. While he never quite fights at his full strength, he proves too powerful for all of Earth’s mightiest defenders, even Goku, who unlocks the magnificent Saiyan God form. While the fight is never beyond his control, it does tucker him out. He is moved by the resolve of Goku and friends and decides to spare Earth and its citizens.

1. Whis

Whis is a waifish blue humanoid with an uneasy air, who is usually seen attending the needs of his ward, the God of Destruction, Beerus. While his whims may seem trivial, underneath his calm, inscrutable exterior is a warrior without equal.

Because Whis isn’t just the attendant of Beerus, but his trainer. He is the only warrior who has ever been able to match Beerus in combat, which is no small feat. Unlike Beerus, he has a much more even temperament, more befitting of a teacher and martial arts master without ego. When Beerus’ ambition to destroy the Earth disappear, he eventually becomes a trainer for the two powerful Saiyans, Vegeta, and Goku. His powers transcend time and space, and it will be quite the feat if a warrior that proves his equal arrives on the scenes.

Final Thoughts

In a series like Dragon Ball, the ante is constantly upped, and characters are constantly reaching new heights of power, with increasingly dramatic hairstyles and super moves. But isn’t that why fans of the series love it so much? With the series going in a new direction, introducing more well-rounded, interestingly powerful characters, it’ll be a pleasure for viewers to see where the series goes next. What do you think? Is there anyone in Dragon Ball Super that deserves to be on the list or at least an honorable mention? Let us know in the comments below.
