The developers first showed us the demo and explained the new features you can do in Trine 4. From what we got, players can utilize not just 2 characters at the same time, but 3, and if you are playing online, then there can be up to 4 players—actually, you can play with 4 players locally as well. Since there are only 3 characters to choose from, the fourth player can be whoever they want to be to have two of the same characters in a single quest. This can help in a big way because if you choose the right two characters to join your party, then the odds of completing quests should be easier. And if you are playing solo, you can switch between characters in-game for the full potential of completing puzzles and progressing through the story. If you are playing with someone else, the puzzles will adapt to generate differently

Reacting to the environment is a huge thing in the game, as you will need to utilize your skills depending o which character you are playing. The coolest thing ever is that you can go out on quests with all three character classes allowing you to utilize all characters to your advantage and complete puzzle tasks. The gameplay mechanics are very smooth with little to no lag or framerate drops. Combat is simple and fun to use as you are able to utilize the right stick on the controller for solving puzzles. Battles have some RPG elements but are more action than anything, and the graphics are upgraded significantly.

Some characters also have new abilities to use in-game. For instance, Amadeus can now teleport forward to a location that is further ahead than him to get behind enemies or to another side of a cliff as well as being able to levitate objects. Zoya can use her arrows to break free objects you may need to help advance in the game. She also has a tethering rope that she can use as a platform to walk on and traverse further into the game's environment. The knight is able to charge really fast and also jump in the air for a air-to-ground stomp that can break through weak flooring to reveal secret areas as well as using the shield to create a shield marker that stays in place wherever you put it. This allows you to reflect the light in 2 different points for solving harder puzzles.

When we finally got some gameplay action with Trine 4, and the controls are wonderful, easy to use, and the fighting was quite entertaining. While they were a bit easy to figure out, we can only imagine that this was set a lower setting for a nice experience. Did we mention about the graphics? Yeah, I think we did. They are gorgeous and the characters in the game really pop out with vivid colors and wonderful personalities...well some of them. The puzzles in the game are very nice and welcoming, as well as, being a bit of a pain to figure out at first but there really isn’t anything to it. The music is magically perfect for the setting and gameplay. It really immerses you in the game for the ultimate experience.

Trine 4 is going to be the longest gameplay of any Trine title in the franchise, so look forward to hours of gameplay. Trine 4 is scheduled for Fall of 2019 so look forward to that. It will also be available on all platforms on launch for about $29.99. So if you love Trine and the franchise, as well as, side-scrolling action-platformer puzzlers, then Trine 4 is right for you! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them in the comment box below.
