How many times have you cried as your favorite ecchi scene was blocked by God’s Beams of Light censoring glorious oppai or hindering your love for pantsu? It’s okay fellow otaku, we here at Honey’s Anime understand your sorrow. Ecchi—like most adult-themed anime genres—is often censored heavily using odd sunlight beams or tons of fog appearing from nowhere like a B-rated horror movie. The annoyance at missing out on giant oppai bursting into light can be truly a horror unlike any other. Thankfully, the perversion-hampering censorship in anime might be coming to an end. "Why?" you might ask. Simple, fellow reader, anime is starting to get more uncensored versions!
HIDIVE Coming In Hot!!!
Recently, many subscription movie/TV services have sprung up offering anime series. Amazon Prime, HBO Max and Hulu all have anime on their platforms but recent contender HIDIVE has done the unthinkable, offer anime but with an uncensored version. The most recent series with this feature is Mother of the Goddess’ Dormitory—which is a fun ecchi series we recommend checking out—which shows oppai in all of their beloved glory. No beams of light here, you’ll see the mountains of beauty in all their majesty and will just need to contain your huge nosebleeds from destroying your keyboards.
Uncensored Blu Rays Too!?!?
Hate it or love it, Domestic Girlfriend offered waifu in two forms—teacher Hina and sister Rui Tachibana—who were often put into sexual situations. As we watched the series online originally, we were sad to see some of the best moments censored by the anime gods reminding us we couldn’t enjoy either sister in their prime. Luckily, if you want oppai without censors—again, who doesn’t?—you can just buy the anime on Blu-Ray and enjoy all ecchi your heart can take with everything in plain sight!
All jokes aside, while numerous “sexy” anime are censored, when they end up coming to store shelves as Blu Rays they tend to be given an uncensored version to make them more appealing purchases. Sex sells, that is a true-to-life statement and it definitely can be applied to anime as well. We have body pillows for a reason after all.
Overall Less Censorship
In the 90s, anime movies/series—Ninja Scroll and Kit for example—weren’t as censored as one might think. Only recently has anime been trying to keep the peace from those who feel sexy content might be too much for those of a younger age, which is understandable. Despite this, many series—not just ecchi—have been given fewer restrictions and show blood and sexual content.
A notable example of this can been in series like My Wife is the Student Council President or the even more recent series—with mixed reception—Redo of Healer. Both series contain a lot—and we mean a lot—of ecchi with oppai being only a fraction of what you’ll see but both are very much uncensored. Goes to show times are changing and people are embracing the ecchi lifestyle.
Will Censorship Disappear?
Unfortunately, as much as we love our stripe pantsu and ginormous oppai, censorship isn’t going to vanish entirely. Many anime still needed to be censored as they appeal to both older viewers and younger ones. Adults love their ecchi unaltered but we also understand younger teens need some more growth before they become proper otaku! Censorship is needed still as much as it pains us to say…
Final Thoughts
Oppai, pantsu, butts and the mix of all are what make the visual aspect of ecchi so wonderful. That being said, too much of a good thing can become tasteless so we always enjoy censorship when done in a tantalizing way. Sometimes, God’s Rays are timed so perfectly that we curse losing out seeing oppai in their native habitat but smile in bliss fantasizing what they could look like.
