What do you get when you fuse a big oppai college girl—who loves to hang out—with a comedy story of a young man dealing with his big oppai friend who doesn’t know the words relax? Simple, you get Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! With season 1 released in 2020, Uzaki-chan unleashed upon us one of the cutest and most adorable woman—whose oppai are godly, Hana Uzaki. Alongside her friend Shinichi Sakurai, the two have rekindled a past friendship and now both try to hang out with each other so much that they annoy their friends who wish they would just hook up.
Likewise, we at Honey’s Anime kind of wish these two would just get together already but watching them hang out and grow closer has been a real treat, to say the least. Now in the Fall of 2022, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Season 2 has been released and with three episodes out you know we had to make a first impression of this second entry. Is Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Season 2 worth watching or should you run for the hills and pretend like there is only one season available to watch? We find out in our first impression of Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Season 2! More oppai, more fun times, and more comedy are sure to happen…right?
The Oppai Goofball Returns and Hasn’t Changed
Those who have been to college, probably know it best as a place to learn and to find yourself growing up even more than before. Well…Uzaki hasn’t grown up at all and is still the big-chested goofball we loved from season 1, which is a good thing. The bowling episode is still the high point of season 2 as we loved seeing the two friends continue their game to sabotage one another in the pursuit of a good time. Not much has changed between the two—aside from their clear feelings for each other being stronger—but that is what we love, even now, about this series. There is a romantic plot here but the main focus is two friends who really just can’t admit their love and their hanging out makes that reality even funnier.
Okay…The Soccer Game Was Good, Too!
Aside from the bowling episode, we did love the football game—American Soccer—that had Sakurai slam a soccer ball into three “bullies” and watch as their skeletons broke in an x-ray-themed series of events. It's scenes like this that we hope the series continues to utilize and why we rarely experienced not laughing from every episode even when it’s repeating themes, which we will mention later.
An Interesting Early Premonition of Love?
So episode 1 did something very interesting. We see a Christmas scene between Uzaki and Sakurai that leads to a possible romance that could blossom between the two. Now, here’s our main concern with this scene... Is this really going to be the season where these two admit their love for one another or is this a red herring meant to keep the viewers believing the two will become a future couple only to later lead to a joke ending? Honestly, we kind of liked this scene but we will really have issues if they make it a comedic gag later as we REALLY WANT THESE TWO TO BE A COUPLE!!!
Okay… More of the Same Might Be An Issue Here…
Okay. Comedy series rarely deviate from their themes—as they hope the comedy keeps making you laugh—but Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Season 2 might suffer a bit if the comedy keeps being the same throughout the remainder of the season. Uzaki and Sakurai’s friends are hilarious but they continue to do the same gags of trying to get the pair together and/or making comments about how they aren’t together. This was hilarious in season 1 but in this second season it kind of feels…old. Ami Asai’s motives, though, are the best form of fan service for the viewer as they often have Uzaki dress up in provocative and revealing clothing but again…we’ve seen this before and kind of wish she did some other things much like Itsuhito Sakaki.
Final Thoughts
Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Season 2 is more of the same as season 1, and that is both a good and bad thing. While still good for a laugh or two, we do wonder if this season will finally bear fruit and have our two main characters tie the knot or end up still being just friends who hang out. We are worried about Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Season 2 missing the romance and comedy mark but for now, we still think fans will want to give this series a chance!
