Yakusoku no Neverland Introduction (No Spoilers)

Emma, Ray and Norman are but a few children who live their lives in a beautiful orphanage surrounded by a pleasant forest and grassy field. One night, when one of the children is about to be sent off to an adopted family, Emma and Norman chase her down to reunite her with a childhood heirloom to learn a shocking truth. Beyond the beautiful home lies an ugly world filled with demons who have eaten those who were apparently adopted. Emma, Ray and Norman realize that they are just food to these demons and orchestrate an escape plan. Yet, will their escape be so easy and what horrors lie in wait for the children outside?

Discussion Time

Norman…are you really the kind child we knew from so long ago? Chapter 125 of Yakusoku no Neverland shows us that Norman isn’t the same regardless of how he seems to be towards Emma and Ray. Maybe the testing facility is to blame or maybe Norman is becoming a young man quicker than expected, but he’s clearly gunning to change the demon world toward a more habitable place for humans. The act of going towards a demon clan and offering them a pact between him and the demons is a scary one, but he full on knows that the demons might betray him at some point. What’s worse…Norman seems to want them to pull this stunt later on! Can Emma really change Norman’s mind on what approach they should take to finding a place to call home or will Norman stick to his guns? Chapter 125 of Yakusoku no Neverland was simply amazing with literally only one flaw in our mind.

Why You Should Read Yakusoku no Neverland Chapter 125

1. Norman’s Development

When we first thought Norman was dead…we always hoped he would walk away from his ill fate. We hoped that if he did survive, he wouldn’t change and still be the Norman we knew and loved. However, chapter 125 shows Norman isn’t the same kid we met in chapter 1. Though this change in Norman excites us, here at Honey’s Anime, for one major reason. We can’t anticipate what Norman might do next! Norman has undergone a huge change in character going from smart and kind to smart and kind but also, possibly cruel. Emma and Ray have changed as well though due to their struggles so it will be interesting to see if they can fight Norman if the time should arise for a challenge between the three special children of Grace Field.

2. Humans vs Demons

The pact that Norman signs with one of the demon clans made us all too curious what Norman really wants from the unlikely allies. We know some demons can be trusted—as proof of Emma and Ray’s reliance on those two vagrant non-human eating demons—but these demons look far from trustworthy. In all likelihood, they will go against Norman at one point or another but Norman—as mentioned above—anticipates this. Thus, we wonder what does this pact truly do for both sides? Is it really just a means to separating land between the two beings or is a sign that no demon clan/human group can be trusted? Norman might have shown why humans and demons can’t trust one another with this calculated play.

Why You Should Skip Yakusoku no Neverland Chapter 125

1. Possible Fillers

Our only worry about Yakusoku no Neverland—revealed in this chapter—is the fear that it will just continue adding moments like this for padding. We can see Yakusoku no Neverland going into the 300 chapter range but we hope it doesn’t continue relying on a cycle of making one moment happen to lead to another and to another. Eventually, we want to see Yakusoku no Neverland aim at a giant battle for dominance—not a literal one mind you—to see humans either best the demons or re-enter the human world and change the old promises set from the past.

Final Thoughts

Yakusoku no Neverland chapter 125 was an amazing one, but we worry about the longevity of the series. While we loved all the past chapters and are loving Norman’s big change, we want the series to surprise us in other ways that aren’t typical shounen affair. Norman might be the right step in changing the genre up but we can also see some possible “cliché” events befalling him later.
