After a two week long break, Yakusoku no Neverland has returned and a war has begun but not between who you’d expect. Norman—under the alias of William Minerva—has opened the demon capital to not unleash humans against the demons but instead other demons. Geelan—who we met a dozen or so chapters ago—has returned to seek revenge on his demon brothers/sisters who threw his family out of the capital. Now with revenge being so close, Geelan and his family have begun their assault! Those in the capital are even more shocked when Geelan shows that he’s been prepared for this day for nearly 700 years by having his family in disguise waiting. While it seems Geelan has the upper hand, the queen makes a bold statement at the very last panel insisting she’s unfazed by this turn of events! What countermeasure could she have in place? Our return to Yakusoku no Neverland has already given us a huge cliffhanger and we can only wait for another several days for chapter 146! In the meantime, let’s discuss some highlights on chapter 145 and why this is a must-read chapter!
1. Demon Coup d’état!
Most of Yakusoku no Neverland has had humans trying to fight demons to survive their overwhelming presence and power. Chapter 146 has the tables flipped as demons fight against their own kind! It might seem like a simple concept and not unreasonable to have a race waging war against their own but this mix of concepts is a nice direction for Yakusoku no Neverland!
2. Geelan’s Attack
We learned that Geelan was removed from the other demons after a rise in power made them seem weak. That’s why it’s not surprising that there’s a lot of animosity between the demons involved. Geelan seemed to have the perfect attack ready but with the queen seeming to laugh the attack off we have to wonder…was Geelan’s attack as strong as he thought?
Final Thoughts
Yakusoku no Neverland chapter 146 was a nice return after a long break that really shocked us in numerous ways. This internal demon war probably won’t last long if the last panel is to be believed, but seeing it even for a second shows neither humans or demons are perfect. What will happen next as the queen makes her moves? Is Norman’s plan working out to the T? So many questions…but we know this series will answer them soon!
