Discussion Time

Alright, we need to take a second to gather our thoughts. Chapter 156 of Yakusoku no Neverland was easily one of the most intense of this series so far and that ending panel…that truly took us by surprise here at Honey’s Anime. When the chapter opened up our faceless queen stood once more in front of our kids. Not even death seemed to satisfy her hunger and she quickly made the statement that she wanted to devour everyone! Despite a surprise attack by the same swordsman that took her down before, our kids found out quickly this new revived queen is very powerful if not more than before! Just before Emma and Ray were next to be attacked two demons appeared and these particular demons are on our side thankfully.

That’s right folks, Sonju and Mujika appeared with a grand entrance. After a quick explanation that the town should be okay, the two demons turned to the queen ready for a fight. Both Sonju and Mujika have been on the run for far too long and they are prepared to stand against the queen and end her tyranny once and for all! Sonju makes a bold statement that he will be the one to kill the queen but a shock hit us hard when the queen seemed to laugh at that statement and proclaim that Sonju is her younger brother!

This whole time our demons have shown they had a deeper past and while we learned briefly of Mujika’s original reasons for running we haven’t yet learned about Sonju. Will the next chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland dive deeper into the connections of the queen and Sonju? We are truly begging for chapter 157 but until its release—which shouldn’t be too long—we can at least gather our breath and discuss the beauty of this magnificent chapter of Yakusoku no Neverland.

Why You Should Read Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland) Chapter 156

1. Queen Version 2.0

Besides her Slenderman-like face—which gives us legit chills—this new, updated queen seems truly powerful! Despite not having visible eyes or ears—or nose for that matter—the queen seems to see everything clear as day! What’s worse is she seems faster and stronger than her past self! Emma, Ray, and Norman might have guns and smarts but this new upgraded queen might be too strong for even their combined might…

2. Queen’s Younger Brother!?

Chapter 156’s biggest surprise wasn’t the queen’s new enhanced form but the revelation found in the last panel. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Sonju is apparently the younger brother of our evil demon queen! We are just dying to learn more about this relationship—are they really related or maybe Sonju was adopted—but we must wait for chapter 157 to go into more detail. Seriously, this series is amazing with its cliffhangers.

Final Thoughts

Yakusoku no Neverland had a bit of a break before we got chapter 156 but that wait gave us one of the more shocking chapters of this series. We have a new powered-up queen and we’ve learned she’s related to Sonju. Our minds are still reeling from that revelation which makes us want to know what’s in store for our next chapter!
