Since his parents died, Yuushi Inaba feels ashamed for living under the roof of his relatives. Yuushi enters high school, and takes this opportunity to live on his own. He finds relatively cheap lodging known as Kotobuki Manor. However, it turns out that here, youkai, spirits, and humans all live together in this strange “youkai apartment”!! At first, these creepily-shaped youkai bewilder Yuushi, but as he begins his strange new life with them, his closed heart begins to open little by little.

Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou was different than I expected this season. I thought it’d be similar to other recent anime like Monster Musume or even Demi-chan wa Kataritai filled with either moe or fan service, but Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou feels a lot more like Fukigen na Mononokean than anything else. It’s got some comedy to it, but it’s really about Yuushi learning to live in this apartment with youkai, an apartment which has housed some human residents for years. The other characters have their own quirks as their lives have started to revolve around youkai or youkai-related things (like disease). The most recent episode was quite sad as you see how certain youkai (or rather ghosts) have ended up in their situations. The last episode really fired up our emotions and we cannot wait for more Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou!
