Karakuri Circus Preview (No Spoilers)
There’s a secret fight going on in the world that only an unlucky few get to witness. On one side, we have the Midnight Circus, formed by scary humanoid-looking puppets that kill everyone who sees them and spread an illness known as the Zonapha Virus. On the other side, we have the Shirogane, a clan of puppeteers who are sworn to destroy the Circus and will stop at nothing to save mankind. Guy Christopher is one of those Shirogane, roaming all over the world looking for Automata in order to kill them before they can hurt more humans.
Character Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)
1. He Is a Very Handsome Man
Like every member of the Shirogane, Guy’s eyes and hair are silver which make him instantly recognizable around humans. However, unlike most of the Shirogane we meet, he also has delicate features and was turned into a soldier very early in his life, and he hasn’t aged much, which makes it easy to think he’s quite young despite being over 100 years old.
2. He Has a Very Special Sense of Humor
Because Guy is almost immortal, he has had the misfortune of seeing many of his loved ones die. He was also abandoned by his biological mother and later lost his adoptive mother in a fight against the Automata, which led to him swearing he’d destroy them all. Perhaps that’s why he has a very dark sense of humor which includes pretending to die, crying to his mother’s photo in the worst possible moments and, if needed, treating his
3. He Always Has a Plan
At first, he might look like if he doesn’t take things seriously or like he just trusts his luck when fighting. But there’s a reason why he’s known as the Shirogane who killed 200 Automata. No matter what situation he may find himself in, even if he has all but three of his fingers broken and is in a plane going down, Guy will have a backup plan to make sure he and his allies survive.
4. He is Fiercely Loyal to His Family
When Guy first meets Narumi, he tells the younger man that he would not stop until all Automata are dead and that’s his only mission. Later, we find out that’s not completely true; his loyalty lies with Eleanor, the only biological daughter of his adoptive mother Angelina, and Souji Saiga, Masaru’s grandfather, to the point that he betrayed the other shirogane just to keep their secrets. This is because he considers them family, which is the most important thing in the world to him.
5. He Never Breaks a Promise
If Guy promises you will die at his hands, start making your funeral arrangements. No matter how crazy it sounds, or how difficult it may be to fulfill, Guy takes all his promises quite seriously. For example, he promised Angelina that Eleanor would find happiness and from then on, he did everything in his power to give her a normal life. And he would’ve succeeded if it wasn’t for the interference of the man he knew as Sadayoshi Saiga.
Final Thoughts
It’s really hard to watch Karakuri Circus and not love Guy. He has a couple of bad moments, and he may seem heartless when we first meet him, but by the second act, he is one of the few surviving shirogane we really want to see succeed in their life quest. But we really want to know: Which are Guy’s best moments according to you? Let us know in the comments below!
