Koizumi Bio
Character Bio
Seiyuu Name: Taketasu Ayana
Koizumi has recently transferred to a new school and is extremely stoic and mysterious. For the most part, Koizumi has kept to herself, which is one reason why Yuu wishes to approach her. As a quiet beauty, Koizumi can be harder for others to approach. However, that all changes once the subject turns to ramen. Although she manages to stay very calm and collected, Koizumi enjoys sharing her knowledge about ramen and consuming large quantities of ramen.
Koizumi Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)
1. Koizumi Loves Ramen
If there’s one trait that is more than evident about Koizumi it’s that she absolutely loves ramen. As otaku, we’ve had our fair share of ramen so we totally understand her enjoyment of this amazing dish. Koizumi is happy to travel all over Japan for good ramen as we’ve seen her go to Kyushu and Osaka to eat a specific type of ramen, and can you blame her? Koizumi is even willing to eat ramen multiple times a day and take ramen tours of the city. She’s dedicated to her food.
Each episode, we are taken on a ramen tour of some sort as multiple types of ramen are featured sometimes. Whether it’s a popular spot like Ichiran or Ippudo, which have locations outside of Japan as far as the US, or extremely unique spots like Tomato Ramen, that are also popular amongst locals. Koizumi even has enough knowledge about each type of ramen that she can explain their origins, how they are made, and what makes each bowl unique to its region or what qualities each ramen has. Hanging with Koizumi is a true culinary experience as you get to know the wonder that is Japanese ramen.
2. She’s Cold
As far as her personality is concerned, Koizumi is rather cold. While she starts off as a quiet beauty type, Koizumi does not surprise us by being completely adorable when it comes to ramen (although she has her moments). No, Koizumi manages to stay rather cold towards others regardless of the time of day, but this is a rather fun trait as it fuels part of the humor in Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san.
Yuu constantly stalks Koizumi in an effort to build a relationship with her and despite Yuu’s great efforts to become friends, Koizumi rebuffs her attempts at friendship and is completely cold when Yuu wishes to share a meal with her. In one episode, when Koizumi goes to eat at Ichiran, she only agrees to eat with Yuu because they are seated far away from each other at the opposite ends of the restaurant, and let’s not forget that Ichiran is known to be a great ramen restaurant for introverts. Koizumi’s aversion to other people can be funny, as we all know how she feels, but it also creates emphasis for her other qualities like how she feels about ramen.
3. Passionate
One word that accurately describe Koizumi is that she is passionate about her ramen. Like we stated earlier, she will go on trips all over Japan or even tour all over Tokyo for different types of ramen, and to be clear, traveling around Japan is not cheap! It takes true dedication and passion to devote all of your finances—especially as a high schooler—to ramen. Let’s not forget that episode 9 when Koizumi climbs Mount Tsukuba for a bowl of ramen!
Another way that Koizumi shows her passion for ramen is her dedication to the entire experience. Rather than cutting a line to stand by Yuu, who stood in line for hours so that Koizumi wouldn’t have to, Koizumi felt very strongly about standing in line herself, even if it meant hours of waiting in the hot Tokyo summer to get a bowl of ramen. She didn’t want to spoil the experience for others who were waiting nor did she want to lose out on that experience for herself, nor does she wish to lower her appreciation for the ramen by cutting. Koizumi knew that if a bowl of ramen was worth waiting for, she’d do just that to show her appreciation for the ramen’s greatness. While not all of us would be willing to stand in a 2 hour line (1 hour is hour max!) for a bowl of ramen, Koizumi would and that just shows how passionate she is about her ramen. It’s a wonder why we haven’t seen her dine at Rokushinha for a bowl of tsukemen.
4. Koizumi Does Not Discriminate
There are some people who are purists when it comes to ramen. Instant ramen? As if! Only the “fresh” stuff for me! Well, unlike those people, Koizumi doesn’t discriminate. When she talks about ramen, she means in all shapes and forms. This much is evident as there are some episodes when Koizumi consumes instant ramen. In episode 3, Yuu has created all sorts of ramen dishes for Koizumi turning the ramen into Italian style pasta or some strange variation of ramen. There’s episode 4 when Koizumi goes to eat instant ramen at a konbini with various things from the konbini itself. Then there’s the episode 8 when Jun goes to a shop that sells instant ramen from all over Japan with Koizumi.
It’s quite clear that Koizumi doesn’t just stick with one particular ramen either. As she has been known to eat instant ramen in all sorts of ways (like when Yuu turned it into something fancy and delicious with a little work), it should not be surprising when we see Koizumi eat Tomato Ramen, blue ramen, or even German ramen! Koizumi is always willing to try different types of ramen regardless of how much it strays from the traditional bowl. Heck, we’ve even seen Koizumi eat a bowl of ramen at a kaiten sushi restaurant. She’s not discriminating against any ramen.
5. Koizumi Can Eat
While we had planned on writing about how Koizumi is the perfect spokesperson for ramen with her anime beauty and love for ramen, we wanted to talk about just how awesome it is that Koizumi can eat endlessly. While that sounds strange, we live in a time when everyone worries about their waistlines and overconsumption. How long can you go without hearing someone worrying about gaining weight like Misa in Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san? Well, it might be because Koizumi is an animated character, but we love how she doesn’t care about these things and just eats!
How can you not enjoy how Koizumi travels all over Tokyo for a holiday to enjoy all the different types of ramen that have made it to Tokyo from all over Japan? Or when Misa followed Koizumi when she was eating kotteri ramen every day for a full week in episode 9? There’s also an episode when Koizumi consumes a bowl of rice with her ramen, which we all know is just too many carbs in one meal (and made worse when you let the rice soak up the ramen broth!). Then we get to see episode 10, when Jun invites everyone to help her do a giant gyoza challenge. While everyone tapped out rather quickly, Koizumi was able to eat more than her fair share of gyoza while ordering whole bowls of ramen on the side. Heck, Koizumi even has a bowl of ramen to finish her meal! Koizumi is one girl who can pack it away and not give a damn about what the ramen or gyoza will do to her figure. You just have to love a girl who likes her food.
Final Thoughts
Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san is a rather enjoyable anime with a main character who is just fun to watch. While she may not be the most expressive, it’s her love of ramen that really gets to us.
