Saiki Kusuo Preview (No Spoilers)

Saiki has all but had it with life. You see, he’s in possession of a slew of supernatural powers which include teleportation, telepathy, x-ray vision, psychokinesis, and more. Of course, he is not going to get off easily, and his powers actually pose a danger to everyone and everything around him. He wears glasses and weird antennae that allow him to keep his powers in check thanks to his weird genius older brother who is always trying to mess with him. Saiki goes to school where he meets a gaggle of characters and the word “unique” only can go so far to describe his classmates. But hey, he’s just trying to make it through another day without being roped into something weird with Shun and Riki, avoiding the self-obsessed Teruhashi-san, and his other classmates who all have their own quirks. His luck does start to change though when he meets Mikoto.

Mikoto Aiura Highlights

1. Mikoto Is A Gyaru

If we told you Gyaru culture was dying out fast like Ganguro, would you believe us? Well it’s true. What makes Mikoto so great is that she’s that screaming shade of yellow in the rainbow of characters in Saiki’s life. She speaks like a gyaru, she’s loud like one, and she does everything at her own pace which is usually about 2 to 3 steps ahead of all of her classmates due to her being smart. Not to mention, too, she stands up to the system with her blonde hair, eye makeup stickers, tan, and the fact that she always looks slightly disheveled compared to all of her classmates due to being dressed down; a key gyaru characteristic.

2. Mikoto Is Not Here For Your Nonsense

We really wanted to call this “mikoto is not here for your s***”, but that would not pass. Saiki is the good guy. Even if he calls people meddlesome, he does do the right thing. Mikoto, on the other hand, is quick to be like “wtf is this loser? They’re gross!” and other things meaning that we can enjoy her outspokenness that should be coming from Saiki but is not. She really cannot stand Reita–for good reason since he is a lecher–and loves to rail on him about how his powers are weird leading to you always laughing about what she says.

3. Mikoto Is A Psychic & Is Actually Open About It

Mikoto is open from the moment you meet her that she has powers. She actually uses them to perform fortune telling and is oddly accurate to the shock of her classmates. Though she can see other people’s Gera or aura, which leads her to Saiki since he is so shining, she uses this to help her tell someone’s future and fortune.

4. Mikoto Always Seems To Have the Right Thing to Say

There is a phrase in Japanese called 適当 (tekitou) which can mean good or bad, “appropriate” or “suitable”. Mikoto is this for better or worse, but definitely for the comedy. She always has the right thing to say and even if she’s not as big as Saiki, she definitely has all the zingers that land perfectly and are ready to make you burst into laughter.

5. Mikoto Actually Is a Threat to Kokomi Teruhashi & Is Saiki’s Love Interest

Normally this is reserved for bombshell characters, but when Saiki actually starts to hang out with Mikoto to get Kokomi to leave him alone, Kokomi is SHOOK down to those false roots of her personality. Kokomi tries, but since Mikoto is a fellow psychic, she gladly helps out Saiki, partially due to her own interest in him, and Kokomi is losing her mind over how close they are.

Final Thoughts

Mikoto is not going to be getting her own spinoff anime or anything like that anytime soon, but she does make and leave a great lasting impression on you in a show full of characters with colorful hair, but maybe slightly lacking in the personality department. It’s for these reasons and more that we love her and we hope you do, too! If you are a Mikoto lover or just a Saiki fan, be sure to let us know down below. Till next time!
