Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (We Never Learn) Preview (No Spoilers)

In order to provide a better life for his family, Nariyuki has been working hard in school to get a special college recommendation. Luckily for him, all of his hard work pays off when Nariyuki is offered the recommendation, but there is a catch; Nariyuki must put his skills to the test and tutor two of his classmates Fumino Furuhashi and Rizu Ogata who are both talented in certain subjects, but horrible in others. With so many tutors failing before him, Nariyuki must find a way to help the girls if he ever hopes of getting his recommendation.

Rizu Ogata Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)

1. Her Pride

Rizu is a very prideful person and doesn't like to feel inadequate. We see her pride show up in little ways like when she doesn't want to admit how bad she is at language arts, and when she doesn't admit to not being able to swim. While pride could be seen as a bad thing, it is one of the things that pushes Rizu forward and has made her into the person she is today.

2. Lack of Social Skills

Although she is incredibly intelligent, Rizu is lacking when it comes to social interactions. Rizu isn't good at remembering names and can quite blunt when speaking to people. This often leads to some great moments showing off a cute side of Rizu we don't often get to see thanks to how analytical she is. Her lack of social skills make her a character that you want to protect and root for as she attempts to change herself for the better.

3. Her Design

Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai has some fantastic looking characters and Rizu is no exception. Rizu has a great character design all around, but the thing that stands out above the rest of her design are her eyes. The design and shape of her eyes are really unique and make her stand out.

4. Her Relationship with Her Father

Some of Rizu's best moments come from when she is interacting with her father. Rizu's dad is a little overbearing and will stop at nothing to protect his daughter which often creates some hilarious moments between the two of them. Rizu often gets the role of the Straight man in the comedic moments and her deadpan reactions to her dad's antics never gets old.

5. Emotional Growth

Out of all of the characters in Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai, Rizu goes through the biggest growth as a person. While we get to learn a lot about the other characters' motivations for their desired path in life, most of Rizu's development surrounds her personality and her relationships. At the start of the anime, Rizu is fairly aloof when it comes to personal relationships and the only friend she does have is thanks to her study sessions. As she continues her studies with Nariyuki, she learns more about herself and how to deal with others, ultimately befriend all of the members of the study group and forming bonds outside of it with people like Sekijo.

Final Thoughts

Rizu is a fun character to watch as she does her best to try and make her dreams come true. It is nice to see a character with some admirable traits along with some less desirable ones that they try and overcome. Hopefully, you love Rizu just as much as we do.What do you think of Rizu?
