6 Anime Like Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (We Never Learn) [Recommendations]

We’ve seen a number of harem comedies over the years, but We Never Learn has its own flair. As far as dense male leads go, Naruyuki isn’t so bad. He’s hardworking, motivated, and focused on helping the girls he grows close to follow their own dreams despite adversity. It’s no wonder they’re falling for him one after another.

This season’s Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai definitely shows us a diverse cast that is more than unusual. This made us think about what other anime we had seen that reminded us of the same feeling. Today, we’re exploring 6 anime that give us serious We Never Learn-type feels. Let’s take a look!

Similar Anime to Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai / Similar Anime to We Never Learn

1. Nisekoi

  • Episodes: 20
  • Aired: January 2014 - May 2014

The son of an infamous yakuza boss, Ichijou Raku has been in love with his classmate Onodera Kosaka for years. However, when Chitoge, the daughter of a rival mob boss transfers to his school, they have to pretend to be dating in order to create peace between their families. Not only is his fake relationship with Chitoge ruining his chances with Onodera, but other girls begin vying for Raku’s affection as well.

We see Nisekoi as a relevant anime to We Never Learn because of how the cast of both shows grows as both series go on. Initially, we’re shown a love triangle that rapidly expands, leaving the main character even more flustered and confused. Audiences are sure to have their own best girl picks from among the characters, and there’s no clear favorite in sight. We like it that way.

2. Goutoubun no Hanayome (The Quintessential Quintuplets)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2019 - March 2019

Uesugi Fuutarou is a poor yet brilliant student who has recently taken on a job as the tutor of some very unruly girls. The Nakano sisters don’t take very kindly to having an outsider among them. Ever since they were young, the quintuplets have relied on each other exclusively over the years. Now, Fuutarou is forced to figure out a way to have these girls graduate if he wants to earn a living. But can he earn their trust before it’s too late?

5-toubun no Hanayome also stars a male protagonist working his hardest to tutor some troublesome girls. While Fuutarou is far more prickly than Nariyuki in We Never Learn, he’s every bit as earnest and just as brilliant a tutor. Both anime have an allstar cast of girls and we enjoy the mystery of just who will end up together in the end.

3. Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru (Oreshura)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: January 2013 - March 2013

Just how many girlfriends does one guy need? Ask Kidou Eita and he’d say zero, but unfortunately, he’s about to get four. After the most popular girl in school blackmails him into pretending to be her boyfriend, his peaceful days of studying alongside his childhood friend come to an end. Now he’s got girls who were just silently waiting for their chance all getting close to him one after another. Funny how that works, huh?

Eita is just as diligent as Naruyuki when it comes to his studies, but the ever persistent unrequited love of the females around him is trying to undo his best efforts. They are both at the mercy of their harems, and they’re standing out in school even though they just want to lead simple lives. We can empathize.

4. Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: October 2012 - March 2013

Kicked out of his high school dorm for keeping a stray cat, Kanda Sorata was forced to move into the Sakura Hall for gifted misfits. Although plain and untalented, his art teacher feels he’s the perfect patsy to take care of her cousin Shiina Mashiro. An exceptional artist, Mashiro has zero real world life skills and is unable to take care of herself. Now Sorata must take care of two pets instead of one.

Sorata, like Naruyuki, has been given responsibility over a brilliant savant that just can’t do the basics. Whereas Furuhashi and Ogata can’t do basic literature or math, Mashiro can’t even dress herself. It seems love is destined to bloom between the caretaker and those who need care in both these anime. At least everyone involved is happy...ish.

5. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2012 - December 2012

Chuunibyou is the act of acting out your delusions in real life, and one of the worst offenders of this make believe lifestyle was Togashi Yuuta. In middle school, he pretended to be the wielder of dark flame with a dark origin, and now all his past actions live on as his dark history. Blackmailed into trying to snap Takanashi Rika out of her chuunibyou ways by her older sister, Yuuta is finding it incredibly difficult to drag this delusional girl back down to Earth.

We admire Rika’s ability to see the world through her own pretend lenses, we really do. But as cute as she is, we really feel bad for Yuuta acting as her substitute guardian. Like Naruyuki, he has an uphill challenge in trying to help a girl who just cannot or will not change her ways. It’s kind of beautiful in a tragic sense.

The high school Akihisa Yoshii attends segments students by skill through A to F tiers. As an idiot, Yoshii finds himself at the F class of his school and subject to all the torment that goes along with it. Alongside him is the brilliant Himeji Mizuki, whom he has a crush on, who only happened to fall to F class because of a fever on testing day. Now the F class must rally together to overthrow their rival classes who wish to keep them in line and out of power, but they have plans of their own.

Doing well in class is everything in Baka to Test, and the students of F class haven’t been given a fair shake. Sure, they might not have been the brightest students, but to pull off their type of plan you have to have a keen intellect to begin with. Much like the girls Naruyuki is tutoring, they haven’t been seen for their full worth as individuals, only judged on one aspect of themselves. This isn’t fair, but they’re all doing what they can to change things.
