Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet (Boarding School Juliet) Preview (No Spoilers)

Grigio Academy is a boarding school attended by children from two rivaling countries. Known as the White Cats and the Black Doggies, each has their own dorms and leaders; Juliet Persia and Romio Inuzuka, respectively. The two factions argue and literally battle daily, but in reality, the two opposing leaders are in love with each other. The people aren’t ready for this development so they decide to keep it a secret and that’s when things get dicey.

Romio Inuzuka Highlights (Spoilers Beyond This Point)

1. He’s Scrappy

Considering he looks like a skinny guy, Inuzuka isn’t the leader of the Black Doggies for nothing. He can more than hold his own against anybody that opposes him, including his girlfriend Juliet, who is one of the most respected and skilled fighters in the school. In fact, most of the Black Doggies believe Inuzuka is the only one who can defeat her. Romio puts any opponents in their place, including the troublemaking trio; Maru, Eigo, and Tosa, who are always conspiring against him. Romio would make anyone feel safe!

2. He’s Full of Love and Compassion

Inuzuka is a great leader because he cares for his people. But he cares for everyone, really. It’s so moving to see him jump to defend the middle school Black Doggies who are being pushed around by some older White Cats before Juliet steps in. He can’t allow injustice to happen to anyone under his watch.

And it’s not just his love interest Juliet that he cares about. He also cares about how Hasuki feels when he finds out that Hasuki has feelings for him and is relieved when she goes back to treating him as friends after finding out about his relationship with Juliet. All Romio wants is to be friends with everybody and to be happy with Juliet while doing so. He doesn’t want to hurt anybody. Like a loving pooch, he just wants to love and be loved.

3. He Wants More Than Just a Pretty Face

Though Juliet is incredibly beautiful, what has always captivated Romio is her intellect, strength, her pure heart, and now, her neverending desire to change the world into one where both countries can coexist peacefully. Romio admires Juliet, not because of her status as a royal, her fighting skills, or even her enchanting beauty. He admires her as a role model and someone to strive to emulate, he wants to be with her because he wants to support her and be by her side on her journey.

4. He’s in Touch with His Feelings

Though he puts on a tough facade when not around Juliet, Romio is actually a huge softy inside. He cries when Juliet accepts becoming his girlfriend to “help him change the world” and he expects to be all cutesy and lovey-dovey with Juliet now that they’re a couple, feeling completely shattered when the latter is not the case. Romio is later depressed after the rosary he was planning to give Juliet gets broken in battle and is moved to tears—again— when he finds out that she kept it and fixed it and has had it the whole time. Romio sure cries a lot… but it’s because he wears his heart on his sleeve, and that makes him as endearing as a sweet pup whimpering with excitement when you come home.

5. He’ll do Anything for Love

It’s adorable seeing Romio drag Juliet out away from battle the day after they become a couple just to “learn more about her” and then announce that he doesn’t care who sees them or how dangerous it is to be seen because he wants to know her better. Then later, in the anime version of the iconic Shakespearean scene, Romio climbs up Juliet’s balcony to give her a rosary because he did some research and that’s what he thinks girls want. He puts up with Scott’s aggression and his fawning over Juliet, he gets into fights and endures blackmail, among other things, but he’s always happy to do so. Anything for his beautiful Juliet!

Final Thoughts

Oh Romio Inuzuka, where for art thou? This handsome pup is the epitome of the perfect boyfriend. He’s sweet, caring, listens to everything Juliet says, he cares for his friends, and wants to change the world while being part of a power couple with his one true love, Juliet. We’re in love!

An otaku as far as I can remember. I grew up playing video games, watching anime in Spanish in Mexico where I grew up, and then was a member of both anime clubs at UTEP for my entire university life when I moved to Texas. I love going to cons, I used to cosplay (always hoping to get back into it), and I got to live in Japan for 2 years and be an otaku there! It was literally a dream come true! Now back in the US, I love being a writer and editor for Honey’s. It’s a great chance to keep up with all the latest anime each season and up to date with all otaku news. And without our readers, that wouldn’t be possible so, thank you for being a part of our hive!!
