After an unfortunate accident with his beloved computer, Shintarou Kisaragi is forced to leave his house for the first time in two years. Shintarou is in dire need of a replacement, and with the Obon festival in full-swing his only option is to visit a department store. It just so happens that the one day he decides to leave the comforts of his home, he gets caught in a frightening hostage situation. Fortunately, his situation doesn’t become fatal as a group of teenagers known as the "Mekakushi Dan” make the save. It’s then that he joins their group and slowly starts to uncover the members past that tie them all together.

When it comes to talking parallels between Mekakucity Actors and Akiba’s Trip The Animation the first thing that we’d like to express is how similar the two are, as far as art style and animation go. For some, it might not make much of a difference in selecting their anime, but we know for others this can be paramount for some who are looking for an exciting package that offers a lot of the same visually.

If you’re one of the former and don’t really care too much visually, then let’s talk about how after an explosive situation, Shintarou Kisaragi finds himself aligning with a group of eccentric teenagers to do away with evil. The same can be said about Tamotsu Denkigai from Akiba’s Trip The Animation, where an unfortunate event leads him to join up with a group of unconventional vigilante’s in order to fight supernatural forces. To top it all off, supernatural forces are present in both anime and often offer glimpses of over-the-top entertainment.

Ayame Kajou appears on the surface to be your everyday high school student, who happens to be the vice-president on the school council. However, after the introduction of a strict new morality law, Japan has become the face of purity. Enter “Blue Snow,” an exhibitionist that threatens to oppose the sexually oppressive laws in Japan. In order to combat these unjust laws, Blue Snow and colleagues from a group known as SOX, with the intention of spreading indecent propaganda among the country.

When we think of Akiba's Trip The Animation one of the first things that come to mind is how they deal with nudity. It plays an integral part in how the story develops and ultimately, it can be the undoing of many characters in that anime. While perhaps not being quite as drastic, Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai also uses nudity and sexual jokes as their central theme. Both stories revolve around how nudity can ultimately become their downfall, whether it’s death in one anime or it being downright outlawed in the other.

Keeping with the sexuality theme, both anime do a terrific job at exploiting nudity in order to convey comedy. There are countless times from both anime where we can think of examples of just that. Just look at Blue Snow, she’s an exhibitionist who wears panties on her head for crying out loud! Speaking of Blue Snow, she uses that alter ego of hers in order to fight the oppressive nature of her situation. The same can be said about Tamotsu Denkigai who uses his new superpowers to derail The Bugged Ones.

The perverted Issei Hyoudou unexpectedly finds himself on a date with another girl. Just when everything seems to be going great, the girl reveals herself to be a fallen angel. She brutally murders Issei, and with that his potential dreams of having a harem one day…. or so he thought. A sultry top-class devil by the name of Rias Gremory revives Issei and allows him to become her servant. He joins the Occult Research Club and is introduced to many new females. It’s then he realizes his chances of being a harem king are not too farfetched.

When creating this article, one of the first anime that came to mind with comparisons to Akiba’s Trip The Animation was High School DxD. How do we figure? Well, the first similarity was how the first episode of each series went. In High School DxD Issei ended up dying after his date killed him. Sure enough, he was resurrected by the beautiful Rias. On the other side of the coin, Tamotsu also ended up biting the dust in a heroic act to save Matome. Showing her gratitude, Matome revived Tamotsu turning him into a Bugged One.

The similarities don’t end there, however, apart from the obvious, supernatural, comedy and ecchi aspects from both series, they also happen to have the main protagonists spending a lot of their time with a bunch of females. Together these female-driven groups take on vile creatures, such as demons and evil spirits. Finally, both of these anime displays ways to manipulate clothes. In Issei’s case, he uses his Sacred Gear to reveal what females are wearing underneath their clothes. As for Tamotsu and the gang, they use their superhuman speed and strength to disrobe their enemies in order to defeat them.

Yuuta Iridatsu might be considered an average high school kid if it wasn’t for one peculiar tendency that simply overtakes his body and mind. Of course, we’re talking about his tendency to faint anytime he catches just a glimpse of girl’s panties. During one eventful day, Yuuta meets the superhero known as “Stranger Juice” and his life changes forever. His soul becomes separated from his body and he can freely traverse the world as he pleases. Now Yuuta must try and put an end to the asteroids that continue to threaten his world. In order to do so, he will have to do his best at not viewing any more female panties.

For some, Punch Line is probably the optimal pick when making comparisons to Akiba’s Trip The Animation, why? Well, let us explain why to the people who aren’t sure. Firstly, we cannot go without mentioning that both these series prominently showcase spirits and body possession. From Yuuta’s spirit being separated from his body to the sinister Bugged Ones using spirit possession on civilians in order to feast on their social energy and will to live. It’s very clear to us that both shows heavily rely on supernatural themes.

The next parallel between both series is how they perceive the main antagonists. In Punch Line, Yuuta goes from being a caring individual who faints from the sight of panties to becoming a panty-powered superhero. Tamotsu, on the other hand, went from being a fairly normal otaku to receiving immense power and becoming a Bugged One in the process. Based on what we have talked about, another similarity comes in the form of fanservice. Both series display an optimal amount of just that; panties in particular. Watching both anime will certainly give you an overload of the pantsu!

Kill la Kill tells a story about a teenaged girl named Ryuuko Matoi who sets out on a journey to find out the true identity of her father’s killer. During her self-appointed mission, she ends up at Honnouji Academy, a prestigious school unlike any other. While there, she comes in contact with the merciless school council president, Satsuki Kiryuuin, and her underlings. After being thoroughly beaten by a student with special clothes, Ryuuko retreats and stumbles upon a form of God Clothes, which gives her immeasurable power. With her newfound strength, Ryuuko returns to the school to take on the Elite Four and uncover her father’s murderer once and for all.

We now present you with over-the-top action and enough comedy to keep you laughing for a good moment. Which series did we just describe? Well, it’s a trick question of sorts, but to answer the question, both Kill la Kill and Akiba’s Trip The Animation. Right off the bat, we wanted to refer to both of these anime for their ability to take extreme measures with their appeal. In the same vein, both of these series display extraordinarily, yet strange, superpowers in how they relate to the story.

For example, in Kill la Kill the characters strength is essentially measured by the very fabrics of the clothes they are wearing. While in Akiba’s Trip The Animation clothes play an extremely important role in the show, as The Bugged Ones are defeated by direct exposure to the air. Which brings us to our last comparison, and that comes in the form of nudity and stripping. Clothes play such a vital role in both anime, whether it’s used for fanservice, superpowers or death; there is a strong connection between these two shows.

A high school boy named Ayumu Aikawa was on his way home from a convenience store one night when all of a sudden, his life came to a crashing halt. A run-in with a local serial killer left him for dead. Suddenly, a necromancer named Eucliwood Hellscythe summoned him back to life; thus becoming a zombie. If things weren’t weird enough for Ayumu, he ended up running into Haruna, a magical girl. After an unforeseen incident, he ended up with her clothes and powers. With Haruna’s powers, Ayumu now takes over her job fighting malevolent creatures, until they can figure out a solution to their problem.

As with High School DxD, we feel Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? shares a similar theme with Akiba’s Trip The Animation. When it comes to the characters of both series, Tamotsu and Ayumu share a couple things in common. For starters, both of them died in the first episode of their respected series, only to be resurrected by females. Ayumu returned as a zombie and Tamotsu as a Bugged One. In addition to them dying, they both inherit superpowers not long after their revival. Ayumu and Tamotsu use these newly-acquired powers to fight supernatural forces who threaten their home.

Although maybe not as critical as some of the other comparisons between the two series, we found another connection between the cast of characters and not just the male stars of the series. It’s actual traits from the cast that Ayumu and Tamotsu are surrounded by. In both cases, they befriend a loli, a tsundere and a well-endowed female. It’s no wonder why we recommend this to you fine folks.
