Cheating Craft follows the story of two cousins, Mu Ming Zhuge and Qiao Yi Huang (Mumei Shokatsu and Koi Oh in Japanese) as they attend middle school. There is something very different about this school, however, as in this alternate reality, education is what is most important and dictates the entire future of an individual. Students may also possess a special ability, which allows them to get an upper hand on one another in the battle field that is exam day. Mumei is a Cheating-type student who enlists Koi, a Learning-type student, to assist him in passing his exams in order to eventually free his father, wrongly convicted of a crime and arrested.

At first glance, the comparisons between Cheating Craft and Baka to Test are very apparent. The two shows share nearly identical premises, with Cheating Craft taking it to an extreme compared to Baka to Test. Much like Baka to Test, Cheating Craft also has students which possess different specialties and traits that help them in examination battles. Cheating Craft also has the same sense of slapstick humor that Baka to Test is so famous for, and a romantic subplot which is not as prominent, but still an important part of the show nonetheless. The main differentiation is that Cheating Craft begins to follow a linear story in the later episodes, as opposed to Baka to Test's segmented stories. Regardless, if you enjoyed Baka to Test, then you're bound to find some enjoyment in Cheating Craft.

Kousaku Hata is an agricultural student who is absolutely obsessed with his favorite idol, Yuka Kusakabe, making it all the more shocking when Yuka announces her early retirement. Kousaku is left depressed and heartbroken, it takes the effort of his best friends to pull him back to school. Kousaku is shocked to find out that his beloved idol had retired in order to transfer to his class under the name Ringo Kinoshita. Determined to become close to his former idol, Kousaku makes it his goal to become close to Ringo and find out just why she decided to retire from the entertainment industry.

The similarities between Nourin and Baka to Test become extremely clear from the very beginning. Conceptually, these two are very similar as well - a quirky high school with an extremely idiotic main character, love triangle, and occasionally odd ecchi moments. Nourin generally has more ecchi - many of the characters getting into revealing positions and situations frequently - but the focus is still that same style of comedy that Baka to Test fans love. No doubt a large part of these similarities is due to Shin Oonuma directing both Baka to Test and Nourin.

The general feel of Nourin can be seen as an adaptation on what made Baka to Test so beloved. The characters of Nourin fill similar roles, though they have plenty of nuance and differences in personality that it doesn't feel like they were copied directly from Baka to Test. The comedy is still the same as before, but given the differing situations and cast, it doesn't feel as if it's a retread of what's been done before. As a result, Nourin is an easy recommendation for anyone who loved Baka to Test.

Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru (commonly shortened to Noucome) is, as the name describes, a romantic comedy in which the main character - Kanade Amakusa - is constantly given a set of choices that he is forced to make by God. This strange quirk leads him to become an outcast in his school, with only a few friends by his side. Kanade spends the rest of his days trying to achieve as normal of a life as possible, and along with his assistant Chocolat, tries to find out just how he may be able to break the curse.

The most important aspect of both shows is comedy, and Noucome has no shortage of humor derived from the various situations Kanade is forced into due to his curse. Much like Nourin and Baka to Test, Noucome also comes with a love triangle (square?) which puts Kanade in various uncomfortable situations, amplified thanks to his curse intervening at the wrong times. The romantic aspect plays a very large role in the story, so fans of that side of Baka to Test will have plenty to enjoy. For fans of the comedic style of Baka to Test who may have hoped they delved deeper into the romance, Noucome is a perfect blend of the two, and the choice to watch it is certainly not a bad one.

High schoolers Tenma Tsukamoto and Kenji Harima are both dealing with the trials and tribulations that come with being in love. Each are infatuated with someone, and the simple act of saying "I love you" is enough to change their whole lives. A former delinquent, Harima was reformed when he first met Tenma, vowing to leave behind his life of violence and instead become a prim and proper student. Meanwhile, Tenma pines over her cool and composed classmate. They both embark on sharing how they truly feel, with several mishaps and misunderstandings making this a much more daunting task than they initially had in mind.

School Rumble and Baka to Test could take place in the same universe and it would be slightly believable. The same high-octane comedy is in full force here, and the amount of similarities lead to the strong recommendation. The anime are very similar in terms of main characters and overall premise - idiots trying to make their way through high school - and the scenarios that they enter are equally as hectic. Every episode has a set of random, non-connecting scenarios, which is nice for those who want more of Baka to Test's style of storytelling. School Rumble focuses much more heavily on the romantic aspect than any prior entry, with Tenma and Harima's growth in romance being the driving force for the plot. Even the structure of both anime are very similar - serious and heartwarming moments spliced with chaotic and ridiculous situations the cast is thrown into.

Working as a chef with his father for years, Souma Yukihira has become enamored with the idea of one day becoming a head chef of a restaurant. This peaceful life was interrupted when his father abruptly left to pursue cooking around the world, leaving Souma to attend one of the most elite cooking schools in the world. Here, students compete against each other in shokugeki (food wars) to see who is the better chef. It's up to Souma to prove his worth and use his years of experience in order to graduate with the best of them.

The major premise of each show is very similar out of the gate. The protagonists must face off against other students in their respective talents in order to show off their skills and survive in their schools. The main difference is the fact that Souma is a genius cook, while the characters around him would be considered the analogue for Class F. The focus on battles in Shokugeki no Souma is much more tense compared to the ones in Baka to Test, being more akin to a shounen anime with food as the attacks. The comedy in Shokugeki no Souma is a lot less out of nowhere, with a lot of it coming either from character interactions or one of the various "food orgasms", in which a character eats food so nice that it brings them to sexual pleasure. While very similar in concept and genre, Shokugeki no Souma is a recommendation for fans of the more action-oriented tenseness of Baka to Test.

Only the strongest dine on bento, and You Satou learned that lesson the hard way. When going out to buy himself dinner, he comes across some half-priced bento before promptly being knocked unconscious. Thinking it was a freak accident, he decides to go once more, and gets beaten up yet again. As it turns out, half-off bento is one of the most beloved things in this world, and he got caught in the fray. The girl he met every night at the supermarket, Sen Yarizui, decides to take him under her wing and teach him how to survive as a wolf on the prowl for discount bento.

From the ridiculous premise to the underdog story where the main protagonist must rise to the top with the help of his friends, Ben-To is on the same level as Baka to Test in terms of how ridiculous it is. The nonsensical nature of fighting over bento boxes is about as crazy as it gets, and the comedy goes in full force with it. Similar to Shokugeki no Souma, Ben-To has various martial arts fights between characters as they are pit against each other in an attempt to claim the sacred bento. Romance largely takes a back seat on this one, opting instead to focus on the comedy and action aspects. If you are looking for an anime with less of the romantic elements and a lot more fighting, while still retaining a relatively similar comedic style to Baka to Test, then Ben-To is sure to be right up your alley.
